Surprise, we're back! Like Michael Myers, it'll take more than 7 episodes to get rid of us! In this special Halloween edition of Bring Receipts, Brandi reads an excerpt from a chapter in her upcoming book, Black Skinhead. The chapter revolves around Edgar Allen Poe's The Fall of the House of the Usher, and the racial subtexts present in the story. Sign up for our Patreon Page to get access to more content from Brandi's chapter.
Steven's brother, John Rudy Ruiz, joins this episode to judge us as we debate the creepiest place we've ever been to. John also plays Beer Somelier and discusses the best beer pairings for some of the most iconic horror movies of all time. So grab your favorite treat (besides this podcast of course) and enjoy Season 2 of Bring Receipts.

They say sequels are never as good as the original, well the conclusion of the 1980s Summer mixtape Battle proves them wrong. If you haven't caught up with Vol. 1, do it now!
Everyone else, you know that the score at the end of the last episode was 6-4 advantage Brandi. Can Steven catch up? That'll depend on the guest judges for this episode: Yulan Grant (DJ Shyboi; @yu_whoooo) and Brian Friedberg (aka Rizzla).
So much rich discussion in this episode from what the more appropriate venue isfor a DJ? A cave or a church? And is Sade's music more appropriate for hot girl summer or cuffing season?

Bring Receipts wraps up Season 1 in style as Brandi and Steven go head to head in the ultimate 1980s summer mixtape battle. Over 5 rounds, each host picks a song from the 1980s that best fits a vibe they've identified. Our guest judges, Joe Torres and Parul Desai assign points to their favorite song. Will Steven, the resident DJ have the advantage? Or will Brandi dig deep into her numerous Spotify playlists and deliver an upset?
In addition to the mixtape battle, Brandi and Steven also recap their favorite moments from Season 1.

There was something in the air that night, the stars were bright, Fernando!
Is it finally time to debate if ABBA was low-key the greatest band ever? No. This episode Steven argues that Fernando Valenzuela is the most influential athlete of the 1980s. Brandi as is now customary, believes the answer is always Michael Jordan. Cue the crying Jordan memes!
Joining the podcast to decide who is right is cultural strategist Karlos Gauna Schmieder (@anotherpundit). This episode covers the rise and fall of the Black baseball player from the Negro Leagues to integration to modern day.

This episode is dedicated to Coach Jimmy Collins, longtime Marvin Gaye fan and loving father of Bring Receipts co-host Brandi Collins-Dexter. Coach Collins passed away in December 2020.
In this episode, Brandi argues that Marvin Gaye's rendition of the national anthem at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game is the only version America deserves. Steven, though a fan of this version, completely disagrees.
Joining the podcast to decide who is right is Matt Howard, the current National Organizer for Communications at Right to the City Alliance and previously was the Co-Executive Director at About Face: Veterans Against the War.
This episode covers Marvin Gaye's musical career, the history of the Star Spangled Banner (did you know it came from a drinking song?), and revolutionary drum machine the Roland TR-808, and major events from 1982.
This episode features the song "The AnacreonticSong" as performed by the University of Michigan's American Music Institute.

Ever been so hangry that you destroy an entire town? If so, you might relate to Rambo, the protagonist of the film: First Blood. The movie follows the story of Vietnam veteran John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) who is harassed and profiled by the sheriff of a small town in Washington state. But Rambo, the ACAB hero you didn't know you needed, fights back. Sylvester Stallone stars in the film and launched one of the 1980s most iconic movie characters
Steven believes that Sylvester Stallone should've won an Oscar for his performance as John Rambo. Brandi disagrees.
Joining the pod to decide who is right is digital media whiz/artist/and low-key influencer: Turner Willman. Turner is the Social Media Manager at 18MillionRising.org, a national organization mobilizing the digital power of Asian Americans.
This episode discusses Hollywood's representation of war, racism in the Northwest, and the long history of violence perpetrated against Asian Americans in the United States.

Bring Receipts has arrived! Grab your tanning pills and get ready to talk about the 1986 movie, Soul Man. This film follows the journey of Mark Watson (C Thomas Howell) a white student forced by his rich parents to pay for law school on his own. So what does he do? As Brandi describes it, he "inhabits the body of a black person" in order to get a scholarship to attend Harvard Law School.
Brandi argues it's the most progressive movie of the 1980s. Steven completely disagrees. Joining the pod to decide who is right is activist/DJ/ and tastemaker: Kwesi Chappin (@KwesiC).
This episode covers the history of blackface, race in the 1980s, and the illustrious (or not so) careers of Rae Dawn Chong and C Thomas Howell.
