This week on Core Values, Superintendent Chuck Perry and Director of ArrowVision, Greg Spencer are joined by BAHS Executive Principal Crystal Barber and BA Freshman Academy Principal, Malinda Silva to discuss the district's new "Disconnect to Reconnect" campaign.
Starting January 1, 2025, Broken Arrow Public Schools will implement a new approach to the use of personal electronic devices in all secondary schools as part of our “Disconnect to Reconnect” initiative. This effort aims to reduce classroom distractions, support mental well-being, and decrease bullying incidents. While the district has had a policy governing the use of cell phones and other devices for years, beginning in January, we will resume full enforcement of this policy across all secondary sites.
A “personal electronic device” (PED) is any privately owned device used for audio, video, text communication, or other computer-like functions. This includes items such as cell phones, earbuds, smartwatches, etc. Starting in January, students will be required to keep these devices powered off and put away during instructional time. Devices may be used in emergencies, as permitted by a teacher, or in alignment with individualized education plans (IEPs). Failure to follow this policy may result in disciplinary action.
