The people we walk with shape the people we become. Proverbs says a lot about friendship because our relationships influence our direction. Good friends encourage us, sharpen us, stand with us in difficult times, and help us become wiser. We need to be thoughtful about both the friends we choose and the kind of friend we choose to become.

Proverbs 3 pictures life as a path. We are all headed somewhere, but we do not always know the best way to get there. Wisdom begins when we stop assuming we can navigate life entirely on our own and learn to trust God with the direction of our lives.

Today we’re in Psalm 34 where David brings forward an illustration about who God is and how we can trust Him. He shifts the question from “how do I get out of something” to “how do I trust God when I can’t control what happens next?”.

Where does our help come from? Sometimes we feel like God is not listening but this Psalm reminds us that He is, and that we need only to be faithful to see how He will help us through our struggles.
