I've never seen such open spiritual warfare as these days in which we live. We are spiritual warriors, and the bible tells us: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you" (James 4:7, ESV). That's a simple formula to follow: submit to God, draw near to God, and resist the devil. The result? The devil will flee from you! Surveillance video, police audio and newly released police reports provide the fullest account yet of the events leading up to Kenneka Jenkins' death in a Rosemont hotel freezer:

• Sept. 8, 11:30 p.m.: Kenneka Jenkins leaves her West Side home in her mother's car with friends. At first they plan to go to a movie, but instead decide to head to the Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare Hotel & Conference Center in Rosemont to attend another friend's birthday party. On the way to the hotel, they stop to pick up a Bluetooth speaker, a bottle of Hennessy Cognac, some energy drink and some marijuana, the friends later told police.

Sept. 9, 1:13 a.m.: Jenkins enters the hotel with three other females and then everything goes left field.

Let Your Light Shine

Matthew 5:14-16

(Matthew 5:14-16) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Jesus calls believers to shine like light in the darkness. Some say, "My faith is a private thing." Jesus is saying that it is not a private thing, we need to let our light shine!

I. Consider the Qualities of Light.

A. Light requires an energy source.

1. Simply having a bulb, a fixture, and some wire does not guarantee that light will be emitted. (illus: when a storm causes the lights to go out)

2. There must be a connection to a source of power, and as believers we have the energy-source within us.

(John 12:46) I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

3. Jesus Christ is our energy source, and our source will never run out.

4. 'Jesus in the same yesterday, today, and forever'

As a Christian believer we must lean on the word of God. Jesus begins with a sobering warning: Do not allow yourself to be deceived! Many people are familiar with Jesus Christ's Olivet Prophecy.

”. . . Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!” (2 Corinthians 11:3-4).
