hi everyone ! in this episode, we basically just recapped our 2020 as a year, including how we've grown, what has changed, and what we plan to do in 2021 to make it better than last year. this one's a little more laid back, we're so so sorry for not uploading the last month and a half, but we're back! enjoy :) <3 - yukta, neeha, sahana, sinduri
hi everyone!! in this episode, we sat down with Aditya (you might know him on tiktok as @ahdityuh) to talk about Hinduphobia and how normalized it is to invalidate the plight of Hindus who have gone through so much for so many years. we unpacked some stereotypes that textbooks list about Hinduism that aren't true, and talked about how the media pushes its own agenda when speaking on topics that have to do with Hindus or Hinduism. lastly, we detailed the Hindu Genocide, which is being called the largest genocide in history and is being completely overlooked. raise awareness, open your eyes, and advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. remember to be considerate when talking to those detailing their traumas, no matter their religion, and never invalidate someone else's trauma. as always, we love you, and be sure to follow us on instagram (@browngirlbanter_) for more info on upcoming podcast release dates, resources to educate yourself on important issues, or to dm us with any topics you'd like us to discuss, or with any feedback you'd like to give! we hope you loved listening as much as we did recording❤️
hi everyone!! in this episode, we sat down with Inaya Siddiqui, a junior from the Bay Area to talk about her experiences with homophobia and how it is to be LGBTQ+ in the Desi community, where (as a result of colonialism) homophobic environments tend to be more prevalent. being an ally and making a safe space to those that may be struggling to come out or be comfortable with their sexuality is just as important, and we all need to be working on ways we can do that. as always, we love you, and be sure to follow us on instagram (@browngirlbanter_) for more info on upcoming podcast release dates, resources to educate yourself on important issues, or to dm us with any topics you'd like us to discuss, or with any feedback you'd like to give! we hope you loved listening as much as we did recording❤️
hi everyone!! in this episode, we sat down with Sahil Thakkar (you might know him on tiktok or on instagram as Thakkar or Thakki) to talk about toxic masculinity and how it is detrimental as well as some of his personal experiences with it. toxic masculinity is not just an issue we see in the south asian community, which is why we kept the title very general, it is a societal issue rather than just a community issue. as always, we love you, and be sure to follow us on instagram (@browngirlbanter_) for more info on upcoming podcast release dates, resources to educate yourself on important issues, or to dm us with any topics you'd like us to discuss, or with any feedback you'd like to give! we hope you loved listening as much as we did recording❤️
hi everyone!! in this episode, we went over cultural appropriation of desi culture, as well as others as well. there are so many examples of cultural appropriation we see in our day to day lives, but during holidays such as halloween, often times, someone's culture becomes another's costume. this is something that needs to be changed, and the fact is - nobody's culture is your costume to mock. we must be cognizant of others and appreciate their culture and learn about it, not use it as mockery and be ignorant. also, we went a little bit into the white savior complex, forceful conversions, and how mission trips aren't always what they seem to be. as always, we love you, and be sure to follow us on instagram (@browngirlbanter_) for more info on upcoming podcast release dates, resources to educate yourself on important issues, or to dm us with any topics you'd like us to discuss, or with any feedback you'd like to give! we hope you loved listening as much as we did recording❤️
hi everyone!! in this episode, we went over body image and self confidence and how eating disorders are looked over & not given the attention they deserve not just in the desi community, but in general. Since experiences are the best way to tell stories and get messages across, in this episode we told our personal stories and read out some of yours (anonymously!) to again, reinforce the fact that there needs to be change in the community and by our peers, social media influencers, everyone in general, and the fact that as usual, you are not alone and it is okay to not be okay. as always, we love you, and be sure to follow us on instagram (@browngirlbanter_) for more info on upcoming podcast release dates, resources to educate yourself on important issues, or dm us with any topics you'd like us to discuss, or with any feedback you'd like to give! we hope you loved listening as much as we did recording❤️
hi everyone!! we are so excited to finally release our very first, real, podcast episode! in honor of it being suicide prevention month, we thought it was more than appropriate to make our first episode on mental health, in terms of how our parents, our peers, and social media can have an effect on it. We understand that it's a bit lengthy but, if you do decide to listen to the whole thing, thank you! we want to let you all know that, above all else, you are never alone. check up on your friends, be a kind person, and take care of yourself too! This is just a part 1 to our mental health series, the next couple of episodes will also be about various topics that fall under mental health, so be on the lookout for those! as always, we love you, and be sure to follow us on instagram (@browngirlbanter_) for more info on upcoming podcast release dates, resources to educate yourself on important issues, or dm us with any topics you'd like us to discuss, or with any feedback you'd like to give! we hope you loved listening as much as we did recording❤️
