The award season is off and running and the 76th Emmy Awards just passed and as usual the show is filled with cheers, some jeers, a few WTF moments, and healthy does of problematic sh*t. In the case of the Emmy’s, a major problem seems to  be in the television comedy categories. For context, go back and listen to our episode ExaminingThe Gap. We are going to do a deep dive into the “dramedy problem” at the Emmy Awards and how it affects the nominees.  We are going to review the who and tell who we think should have won…in the words of the divine Issa Rae “I’m rooting for everybody Black!”

They conclude by honoring other Black figures who passed in 2024, celebrating their contributions to the arts.

Tyler Perry is a movie & tv, global icon & black billionaire.. For over 20 years, Tyler has been writing, directing, producing his own work, specifically  to the Black Community with varying degrees of success. However, the success has come at a price: many of his products are often harshly, yet understandably  criticized, and many of his narratives have sparked debate in the community he says he loves so much. Hosts, Alexus Bertrand and Roger Turner believe that we critique the things we love. So, we love Tyler Perry but there is trouble in paradise.
