Brutal, bizarre, and boozy podcast

This week Deklan tells us about the strange scene of a car accident in New Hampshire from 2004. The vehicle had been involved in a small accident on the side of the road. One witness reported speaking to a woman who claimed to have called AAA for assistance. The owner of the vehicle was Maura Murray. It is presumed that she was driving the vehicle but she hasn’t been seen since then.

Jane tells us the history of Heceta Head lighthouse on the Oregon Coast. The tower and its outbuildings have existed for over 100 years. With that long of a history it is of course reported to be haunted. From ghosts who sweep the attic to ghost cats seen walking the property there are plenty of spooky things to make it the creepiest place on the Oregon coast according to HGTV.

This week Jane tells us about the deadly honeymoon of Scott Roston and Karen Waltz. The couple were on a honeymoon cruise to Mexico when Karen went overboard. Roston changed his story multiple times about how the accident happened. He was ultimately convicted of her murder but gave a bizarre defense during the trial, pointing the finger at an unlikely source.

Deklan tells us about the missing teenager, Andrew Gosden. He left his home in South Yorkshire and traveled to London. No one knows why he skipped school to make this trip or where he eventually went. He is still missing to this day.

This week Deklan tells us about long-time gamers, Casey Viner & Shane Gaskill. The pair were playing Call of Duty and Viner was angered by something Gaskill did in the video game. Viner threatened to send law enforcement to Gaskill’s home in a different state. Gaskill didn’t take the threat seriously and gave a fake address. Viner got the assistance of another person, Tyler Barriss, to make the actual phone call. The incident led to the death of an innocent man at the address Gaskill had given. Andrew Finch died as a result of this activity.

Jane tells us about the historic hotel the Santa Maria Inn. It has been an icon of the central coast of California for over a century. It also happens to be haunted. Tales of cuddling ghosts and playful children will give you goosebumps for sure.

This week Deklan tells us about a Hungarian serial killer. Béla Kiss operated for years under the radar, storing several bodies in large metal drums. The bodies were eventually discovered but by then Kiss had left the area. It is believed he had at least 23 victims but it’s possible there were more.

Jane tells us about a missing person case that for 4 years puzzled the family and law enforcement. Alex Cooper went missing without a trace but then was spotted halfway across Canada under a different name. Before he could be interviewed by police he disappeared again. His story was featured on Unsolved Mysteries which led police to his new location and an interesting story of an assumed identity.

This week Jane tells us about the serial killer who nicknamed himself. Dennis Rader, AKA BTK, was upset by not getting attention in the media so he started sending letters to the media and police bragging about his crimes. Thankfully, it led to his undoing and arrest.

Deklan tells us about a strange tragedy in London. Meux & Co's Horse Shoe Brewery had a large vat in which it stored and fermented beer. One day a large metal band around the vat came off. This was not necessarily a strange occurrence but it led to a huge accident. A two story vat of beer burst causing a massive flood in the streets of London.

This week Jane tells us about the murder of Jolee Callan. She was lured on a hike by her ex-boyfriend, Loren Bunner. The two went to a nearby state park, where Bunner killed Jolee and then called 911 to report the crime. He attempted to get easy treatment for the conviction by applying for youthful offender status but it didn’t work and he was sentenced appropriately for the crime.

Deklan tells us about the fateful flight MH 370, Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur headed for Beijing, China. The plane disappeared part way through the flight and has never been located. Speculations abound as to where the flight went and what could have happened to it.

This week Deklan tells us about a cold case that took some interesting turns. Nicole van den Hurk was killed in 1995 in the Netherlands. Her stepbrother confessed to the murder in 2011 but later explained that his confession was false and done in an effort to exhume her body for DNA evidence. It proved to be a good tactic as it led to the arrest and conviction of the actual killer based on the DNA evidence.

Jane tells us about a horse named Lady Wonder who was reported to have psychic powers. Her owners claimed she could predict political races and earthquakes. She also helped law enforcement in two separate missing persons cases in different states. Of course, skeptics believe that it was all a hoax perpetrated by the owners.

This week Deklan tells us about serial killer and reputable liar, Larry Hall. Hall liked to confess to crimes but he was also a known liar so it was difficult to confirm his confessions. Police took an interesting tactic by enlisting another inmate to get confirmation of the details of the murders Hall was suspected of. Hall’s story was made into a TV mini series, Black Bird on Apple+.

Jane tells us about a deadly train accident that injured over 100 people and kill 25. One of the passengers on the train, Charles Peck, made repeated calls to his loved ones after the accident. Well at least his cell phone did, the reality of the incident left people with many questions.

This week Deklan tells us about Otto Warmbier and his overseas travels. He was suddenly arrested in North Korea, accused of stealing a propaganda poster from a hotel. He was convicted and sentenced to a hard labor camp. Shortly after entering the camp he fell suddenly and inexplicably ill that eventually led to his death.
