  • Goodbye Stephen Hawking and Farewell to a beautiful mind

    Writing years later on his website, Professor Hawking said: “I have had motor neurone disease for practically all my adult life. Yet it has not prevented me from having a very attractive family and being successful in my work. I have been lucky that my condition has progressed more slowly than is often the case. But it shows that one need not lose hope.”

    At a conference In Cambridge held in celebration of his 75th birthday in 2017, Professor Hawking said “It has been a glorious time to be alive and doing research into theoretical physics. Our picture of the Universe has changed a great deal in the last 50 years, and I’m happy if I’ve made a small contribution.” And he said he wanted others to feel the passion he has for understanding the universal laws that govern us all. “I want to share my excitement and enthusiasm about this quest. So remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious, and however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”

  • Hello 2018, 别了 2017

    The Year

    Ella Wheeler Wilcox - 1850-1919

    What can be said in New Year rhymes,
    That's not been said a thousand times?

    The new years come, the old years go,
    We know we dream, we dream we know.

    We rise up laughing with the light,
    We lie down weeping with the night.

    We hug the world until it stings,
    We curse it then and sigh for wings.

    We live, we love, we woo, we wed,
    We wreathe our brides, we sheet our dead.

    We laugh, we weep, we hope, we fear,
    And that's the burden of the year.

  • Lord Byron: She Walks in Beauty 她走在美的光影里

    修炼成鸽子精的ShinJam终于更新了!

    时隔这么久才推出拜伦系列的第二集实在对不起各位听友,让你们久等啦。

    这一期我们来讲拜伦的又一经典之作《她走在美的光影里》。小声说:“拜伦你一直盯着表哥的老婆看真的好吗。。。”

    She Walks in Beauty

    BY Lord Byron

    She walks in beauty, like the night

    Of cloudless climes and starry skies;

    And all that’s best of dark and bright

    Meet in her aspect and her eyes;

    Thus mellowed to that tender light

    Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

    One shade the more, one ray the less,

    Had half impaired the nameless grace

    Which waves in every raven tress,

    Or softly lightens o’er her face;

    Where thoughts serenely sweet express,

    How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

    And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,

    So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,

    The smiles that win, the tints that glow,

    But tell of days in goodness spent,

    A mind at peace with all below,

    A heart whose love is innocent!

  • 分手必读:Lord Byron--When we two parted

    When We Two Parted

    by Lord Byron

    In silence and tears
    Half broken-hearted
    To sever for years,
    Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
    Colder thy kiss;
    Truly that hour foretold
    Sorrow to this.

    The dew of the morning
       Sunk chill on my brow—
    It felt like the warning
       Of what I feel now.
    Thy vows are all broken,
       And light is thy fame;
    I hear thy name spoken,
       And share in its shame.

    They name thee before me,
       A knell to mine ear;
    A shudder comes o'er me—
       Why wert thou so dear?
    They know not I knew thee,
       Who knew thee so well—
    Long, long I shall rue thee,
       Too deeply to tell.

    In secret we met—
       In silence I grieve,
    That thy heart could forget,
       Thy spirit deceive.
    If I should meet thee
       After long years,
    How should I greet thee?—
       With silence and tears.

  • Seven times have I despised my soul:纪伯伦的灵魂拷问

    Seven times have I despised my soul:

    The first time when I saw her being meek that she might attain height.

    The second time when I saw her limping before the crippled.

    The third time when she was given to choose between the hard and the easy, and she chose the easy.

    The fourth time when she committed a wrong, and comforted herself that others also commit wrong.

    The fifth time when she forbore for weakness, and attributed her patience to strength.

    The sixth time when she despised the ugliness of a face, and knew not that it was one of her own masks.

    And the seventh time when she sang a song of praise, and deemed it a virtue.
