As a social media native and a fashion designer, self image is something I have committed to revisiting and refining. I have to. I find that just living and being is invitation for enough external pressures. Everything about us, relationships, pursuits, emotion , etc, rises and falls on self image. And so we really must come to an accurate understanding of our selves. Not what we would have wanted, not what the world wants, but what we are.
I begin my series of self image talks with my poem titled 'April'. About an eagle preparing to take on the skies, from birth. As high as it's capable of flying, sometimes the graceful strides of a peacock seems like the better deal. As beautifully as the eagle could glide against the winds, sometimes a swim in a cool stream like a swan seems like 'living the life'. No matter, a swan is a swan, an eagle is an eagle and in the end, the baby eagle was made to fly. And so, it must learn to fly. Its authenticity comes to life in the skies.
