In this history episode, Tim discusses the legacy of former Arsenal striker Charlie Buchan. He was Herbert Chapman's first signing for the Gunners in 1925 having left Woolwich Arsenal as a teenager in a row over expenses. His star quality and his intelligence and confidence as a trained teacher drew Chapman to Buchan as a prototype for the sort of player he wanted. It was reportedly Buchan who suggested tweaks to the WM formation Chapman would adopt at Arsenal that underpinned their dominance of the 1930s. Post career, Buchan became a respected football journalist and broadcaster and he fought in the First World War with some distinction.
