Bob: Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Three Techs. I’m testing some new speakers here in the house from a company called Buchardt Audio out of Denmark. And these are their A500 active speakers.
Steven: how did you find out about them?
Bob: So company that I’ve been watching for about a year and a half now, they announced these early in 2020 for summer availability and they just got them released in mid August.
Steven: And what kind of price range?
Bob: They’re just under $5,000. Obviously it’s a bookshelf speaker. It’s small, it has three drivers.
It has a Twitter and a woofer out the front. And then a second Wolfer out the back and all three of the drivers have their own. 150 watt class D amplifier. And they’re all sealed in separate chambers inside of the speaker cabinet. So they’re completely isolated from one another and also inside of the system, of course of the amplifiers.
Yeah. And two digital signal processors that do all of the electronic crossover and all the other processing the speakers need to do, uh, to present sound
Steven: the advantage of a class D amplifier.
Bob: The major advantage of a class D amplifier is power consumption for power output. So they do a really good job of producing a large amount of power with physically smaller components.
Yeah. They have some disadvantages because they use switching supplies or there is actually switching voltages inside of them. So sometimes some of the older ones actually cause noise in the system, the modern ones don’t have that problem anymore. There’s people that don’t like class D amplifiers just in general, but I don’t think you’d find any problems with these,
Steven: that
Tony: these speakers are in a totally different price range than the key threes that we looked at previously.
Bob: Yes, they are.
Tony: It sounds like you’re almost downgrading from the to these speakers,
Bob: trying to simplify the whole system and, and bring it down to be a little bit more realistic. The key we’re here for business reasons, and I need something that’s simpler and a little bit smaller. Got it. There are a few unique items about the eight five hundreds, the first item.
