In this episode of Buckeye Cadence, Blake Biscardi breaks down four of the biggest questions surrounding Ryan Day’s team heading into the second half of the 2026 season:
Ohio State football is 4-1 and 2-0 in the Big Ten after a statement win over No. 14 Iowa. But the Buckeyes still have major questions to answer.
• Did Iowa show us the Ohio State team that can compete for the Big Ten and national championship?
• Can Julian Sayin and Ohio State’s supporting cast make the offense more than Jeremiah Smith?
• Can the Buckeyes fix their execution and special-teams problems before the biggest games arrive?
• What has to happen over the next seven games for Ohio State to win the Big Ten and make a deep College Football Playoff run?
Ryan Day was direct about several of those issues during Tuesday’s press conference, including Ohio State’s special teams, Julian Sayin’s decision-making, the run game, defensive communication and the development of the Buckeyes’ transfer class.
Luke Montgomery also provided insight into Ohio State’s offensive line, the run game and what Maryland presents at the line of scrimmage.
The Iowa win gave Ohio State momentum. The next seven games will determine whether the Buckeyes can turn that momentum into a championship season.

Ohio State bounced back from its loss to Texas with a dominant 59-3 win over Kent State at Ohio Stadium.
In this episode, Blake Biscardi and Grant Kincaid break down the Buckeyes’ response, Julian Sayin’s efficient performance, and the offense scoring on its first four drives. Then it sputtered…why?
The good, bad, and ugly from Ohio State’s win over Kent State is this episode’s theme.
The biggest moment came early when Jeremiah Smith became Ohio State’s all-time leader in career receiving yards, passing Michael Jenkins with a 23-yard reception from Sayin. Smith finished with five catches for 85 yards as he added another milestone to an already historic Buckeye career.
Blake and Grant also take a closer look at the young players who made their presence felt. Chris Henry Jr. broke loose for a 75-yard touchdown, Riley Pettijohn recorded his first career interception, and freshman defensive tackle Jamir Perez returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown. Ohio State’s defense held Kent State to just 134 yards and three points.
With Big Ten play ahead, Biscardi and Kincaid discuss what Ohio State can take from the 59-3 victory, which young players are emerging, and what the Buckeyes still need to prove as the season moves forward.

In this episode, Blake Biscardi and Grant Kincaid break down three young Ohio State players and position groups to watch against Kent State:
• Legend Bey: What role will he have in the offense, and will Ohio State get him more involved beyond his expected responsibilities as a kick returner?
• Khary Wilder: After playing just five snaps against Texas and recording two quarterback pressures, will Wilder see an increased role in the Buckeyes’ pass-rush rotation?
• Riley Pettijohn and the linebacker rotation: How will Ohio State continue rotating Pettijohn, T.J. Alford and the rest of the linebacker group against Kent State?
Blake and Grant also look at the Ohio State offensive line and run game and what the Buckeyes need to see as they move forward from the Texas loss.
Ohio State vs. Kent State is an opportunity for young Buckeyes to earn more snaps and for Ohio State to continue building its identity heading into the rest of the season.

Ohio State blew a 20-point lead against Texas. Now Ryan Day is explaining what went wrong.
The Buckeyes led Texas 23-3 in the third quarter before the Longhorns stormed back to win 24-23 in Austin. After one of the most stunning collapses of the 2026 college football season, Ryan Day addressed the biggest questions surrounding Ohio State football.
In this episode, Blake Biscardi and Grant Kincaid are joined by Dillon Davis (@DillonDavis56/X) of the Delaware Gazette to break down Ryan Day’s postgame response and what it means for the Buckeyes moving forward.
THE BIG QUESTIONS:
• Was Ohio State’s collapse against Texas a coaching issue, an execution issue, fatigue, or a combination of all three?
• Does Ryan Day need to be more aggressive on fourth down?
• What happened to Ohio State’s special teams when the game was on the line?
• Can Julian Sayin and the Buckeyes develop a more complete passing game beyond Jeremiah Smith?
• Why did Jeremiah Smith disappear from the offense late despite finishing with 8 catches for 164 yards and a touchdown?
• Does Ohio State need to change its defensive approach or personnel after Texas scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter?
• What did Ryan Day mean when he said Ohio State needed to win the fourth quarter?
• Is the Texas loss a warning sign for Ohio State, or an opportunity to fix the problems before Big Ten play?
Ohio State controlled much of the game before Texas flipped the momentum in the fourth quarter. The Buckeyes struggled to sustain drives, the defense spent extended stretches on the field, and the Longhorns eventually completed the comeback.
Ryan Day acknowledged that Ohio State had opportunities to be more aggressive, needed better execution, and ultimately did not play well enough in the fourth quarter.
We break down Ryan Day’s comments, Julian Sayin’s performance, Jeremiah Smith’s role, the fourth-down decisions, Ohio State’s defense, special teams, and what this loss could mean for the Buckeyes’ 2026 season.
