On this episode of Buckeye Dads Discuss, Andy and Josh are trying something different! Your cohosts have read Kirk Herbstreit's new book, Out of the Pocket: Football, Fatherhood, and College GameDay Saturdays. The guys give their review, discuss their favorite anecdotes from the book, and chat about their takes on subjects that are also near and dear to their hearts. We highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about one of the most prominent faces of our mutual alma mater. Enjoy!
Andy and Josh are back just in time for your Monday commute. After another meandering introduction, which includes Andy's thoughts on seasons 2-4 of Game of Thrones, we dive into the recent COVID news (44:30). What does it mean that the Pfizer vaccine is officially approved? We discuss employer driven vaccine mandates, masking in schools, and joke about ivermectin. We take a look at the week 0 AP and Coaches Polls, and are way too optimistic about the Ohio State football team's schedule (1:25:12). We close out with an extended List of the Week - our Top 10 Favorite Video Games of All Time (1:36:35). There were so many options we just couldn't keep it to five.
NOTE: in an upcoming episode, we will be reviewing Kirk Herbstreit's new book, Out of the Pocket: Football, Fatherhood, and College GameDay Saturdays. Read along with us, and enjoy this episode!
After an extended summer break, Andy and Josh are back and boy do they have a lot to say. After taking some time to recap the dog days of summer, the guys jump into sports (33:40). We aren't fans of Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC. After touching on the NFL, we discuss the summer Olympics. Spoiler alert - one of the hosts craps all over gymnastics. Josh provides a quick NBA finals epilogue, and Andy recaps some European soccer news. Next we transition to COVID (1:11:30). Honestly, this section is pretty ranty and outdated, and we will discuss all the big news in the next episode. We wind down with some miscellaneous news nugget (1:39:46), before closing with our List of the Week - Andy's Top 5 Least Favorite Game of Thrones season 1 characters (2:12:00). Yes, one of the hosts is a decade late to joining the zeitgeist, but he'll be recapping his series binge over the next couple of episodes. We're happy to be back - enjoy!
The MCU has returned, and so have Josh and April to break down its latest additions. The couple begin by giving their thoughts on Black Widow (3:00). Did we enjoy the movie? Did the delayed release impact our viewpoint? Listen and find out. We transition into a discussion of the exceptional Loki TV show (38:35). We dissect the cast's amazing chemistry, how this show broke the mold compared to the previous two, and what it all means going forward. We also update our top 10 MCU lists (1:06:30). Finally, we close out the show with the List of the Week - a draft of our top 5 favorite new MCU characters (1:12:56). Enjoy!
Hosts Andy and Josh are back in action, and we cover a lot of ground in this episode. The guys take a while to catch up with some air travel stories and rantings about fireworks. We switch over to cover the latest COVID updates (20:05), both in the country and the Buckeye State in particular. It's all been leading up to this - Andy and Josh debate the pros and cons of Ohio's Vax-a-million lottery (35:42). Next up is sports, where Andy gives us the latest news with the US men's national soccer team (1:00:52). We discuss the latest goings on in college football and the NBA and NHL, before closing with a big picture look at what athletes do or do not owe the media and fans, in regards to the Naomi Osaka / French Open tennis story (1:16:41). We dip our toes in the political waters (1:29:15) before closing with our List of the Week - our Top Five Favorite Father's Day gifts (1:37:30). Enjoy!
We're back, and Andy and Josh are here to talk about sports. After catching up, the guys jump into our first topic, the NFL draft (8:00). We discuss the news that Aaron Rodgers wants out, Justin Fields to the Bears, and what Urban Meyer is doing in Jacksonville. Josh and Andy trade updates on the NBA and NHL, respectively (33:45), before giving the first List of the Week, where we submit our NHL and NBA MVP ballots (45:35). We switch gears to cover some soccer topics (57:55): European Super League, Champion's League, and the USMNT. We take a brief detour into news (1:15:23), before closing out the show with our second List of the Week - our Top 5 Toledo Outdoor Activities (1:35:00).

Max stops by to give his thoughts on the show (1:18:15), before we close out the show with our List of the Week - the top 5 movies we are anticipating seeing in the theater this year (1:20:25). Enjoy!
Andy and Josh are back and it's time to get serious. We take some time to catch up but then dive in to the Johnson and Johnson vaccine pause (8:54). Surprise surprise, we have a lot of say, and by the time you hear this, the pause has ended. We discuss public opinion on the news, alternative options, and vaccine hesitancy here and abroad. We shift gears and dwell on all the awful news around the police shootings that occurred this month (42:46). Andy leads us through the Chauvin trial, and we remember Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo. This section is emotional. We move on to discussing a recent Ezra Klein podcast on the societal impact of boomers on millennials and the forces that affect our generation (1:17:22). We close the show out with the List of the Week - our top five favorite zoo animals (1:46:18). Stay safe Ohio!
We are back and this episode is so random. We open with vaccine news of a personal sort – Andy and Josh are on their way to being fully vaccinated. We bask in the warm glow of science for a while, before moving on to a myriad of topics. We start with the Grammys, of all things (19:00). Andy does his best Ben Shapiro impression while Josh is left to defend the virtues of W.A.P. Yes, that is a real sentence. We do a 180 and transition to talking about the American Recovery Act, specifically the updates to the child tax credit (28:30). Andy tells us what’s going on in hockey, Josh touches on basketball, but we spend a good chunk of time discussing what a return to normal looks like (41:50). Josh seeks some advice on child punishment methods (58:00), before we bounce around to some miscellany: Biden’s solo press conference, abolishing day light savings time, and girl scout cookie power rankings (1:09:00). We close with the List of the Week – Top 5 Columbus restaurants (1:24:00). There are lots of stories. Enjoy!
In this episode, Andy and Josh are back to discuss the omnipresence (and omnipotence?) of social media. We start by giving a brief history on the emergence of big social media platforms, and our early experiences with them. We move on to discuss how social media exacerbated a newsworthy incident at a local high school (15:00). Around the 30 minute mark we step back to discuss social media as a whole, and it goes all over the place. We try to answer some tough questions: how destructive is Facebook really? Why do Republicans care so much about Dr. Seuss and the Potato Heads? Why can't Josh stop dunking on people via social media? Finally, we close with our List of the Week - our Top 5 Favorite Board Games (1:14:30). We have runners up, stinging burns, and stories. Have a great week!
