The guys from Backyard Angling are back in the studio to talk about a subject we have become quite skilled at. DIY fishing trips are something that we do every year and have learned some techniques to make some of your dream destinations become a reality. Join us as we share some of those tips with you and hopefully allow you to look at those far away places in a different way. Between the four of us on the show, we have traveled and fished a lot of North America and we couldn't have done that if we didn't do it on our own. Hopefully you will pick a few things up from this episode and take a trip of your own.
We sit down with our friend Gordon Vanderpool and take on one of the most discussed topics on the Facebook fly fishing pages. "What's the best euro rod?" Gordon is a wealth of knowledge and we love to pick his brain anytime we get him in the area. Like anytime three old friends get together to discuss something, things often get off topic and go running down other bunny trails, but that's what makes this such a great episode.
We had a great time as we sat down with Dan and Doug Roberts of the very successful YouTube Channel, Backyard Angling. Doug and Dan have been fishing since they were young and eventually decided to start taking the camera with them to start producing YouTube videos. In this episode, we discuss our connection to each other (their father was my Biology teacher), videoing your trips, and finding happiness in the outdoors when the fish aren't biting. You can find the two brothers on Facebook and Instagram at Backyard_Angling.
Shawn and Pat sit down with Walt Young. If you're a fly tier, you may never have heard of Walt Young but I can almost guarantee you've heard of the fly named after him. The Walt's Worm is probably the first fly you learned to tie if you have taken a fly tying class. In this podcast, we discuss how the fly was born and also Walt's time in the fly fishing industry.
Sit back and listen as Shawn and Pat discuss their thoughts on what is takes to be a good euro nymph pattern. As you continue in your fly tying and fly fishing you tend to want to try things out and experiment with your tying. We tried to narrow down the most important aspects of fly tying and discuss the reasons why if you stick to these key points just about any fly you tie will catch fish.
In this episode, Shawn and Pat sit down and discuss the flies that fill their fly boxes and how those flies have earned a spot there. It was kind of hard limiting it to just 5 flies, but we did it. Sit back and give this show a listen and see if our flies match yours.
Join me at the Fly Fishing and Wingshooting Show in the Poconos as I sit down with the Quilted Tyer herself, Nicole March. You may know Nicole from seeing her tying at a show or possibly read her article in Fly Tyer Magazine or on her website. Spend any time with her and you will quickly see her love for the sport and her love for people. I had a great time with her discussing how she incorporates the sport we love into her everyday life. Sit back and listen, laugh and learn.
In this episode, we sit down with Mike Komara, member of the US Youth Fly Fishing Team. He talks about his experience representing Team USA all over the world.
Join us for part two of this excellent episode! Pat Weiss is a long-time member of Fly Fishing Team USA and has finished multiple world championships. Pat is one of the most knowledgeable and experience fly anglers on the water today, which makes him a wealth of knowledge.
