In our first ever Live Twitch Podcast episode, today's guest is the Twitch Chat. After rolling for the basics we went through and filled in some details on the Diverse Character Worksheet.
Eventually we got to place where we had a basic understanding of who Violette Smaugrithgaard was. The Dragonborn Bard grew up in a wealthy family, with tudors, piano instructors and everything she could want in life... she got. The one thing she wasn't able to get was the ability to hear, but she learned she had this neurological condition in which she could see the sound in front of her in various colours. Using this along with innate magical energy she became a bard weaving together persuasive arguments and deceptive tales to get her way even more. I wonder how much she could get away with?

Today's guest is Brad, who came into this episode wanting to create a character who was had a substance dependancy. After rolling for the basics we went through and filled in some details on the Diverse Character Worksheet.
Eventually we had gotten to place where we had a basic understanding of who Toshz was. The Lizardfolk Carpenter works in a large town with a long term committed romantic partner. Toshz has found great success as a carpenter and business person but she grew up in a rural conservative Lizardfolk community somewhat near the town she now lives in. She did not agree with all the beliefs of that community which caused tension along with never going through one of their main rites of passage. She now spends most of her days in charge at work, regularly partaking in the use of a magic substance that gives her a form of escape from her life. And once a year she goes back to the Lizardfolk community to participate in their annual procreation practice where eggs get fertilized and distributed among the community. As she never finished the rite of passage though, she never gets to bring any eggs home.

Today's guest is Joanna Liu. Joanna has really dedicated a lot of time to TTRPGs from her continuation of her thesis which looks at statistics and patterns of TTRPG players (on Instagram @dnd.resaerch) or her very successful jewelry business (on Instagram @ribbonandknot) to her newest project, where she is soon launching a kickstarter to help build Augmented Reality Mapping Tool for TTRPGs (on Instagram @cartographr_ar)
Joanna came into this episode wanting to create a character who did not match a gender she identified with along with bringing Eastern Asian elements to the culture in which the character grew up in. After rolling for the basics we went through and filled in some details on the Diverse Character Worksheet. Joanna was so great at drawing elements of her life and translating that into an identity or characteristic that would fit into a fictional fantasy world.
Eventually we had gotten to place where we had a basic understanding of who Mil was. The Orc Paladin identifies as Genderfluid and she grew up in a strict tribe of Orcs, although her parents were supportive, they were not overly emotional or forth coming with their praise. Mil often felt alone, like a hermit, even when surrounded by many people as she struggled to deal with his identity, along with physical and mental conditions that set him apart from his tribe. One day, Mil heard a voice, the voice of their god. Mil discovered that they needed to be the change and they would bring change to their tribe.

Mason came into this episode wanting to create a character who has both physical disability and cognitive disability or neurodiversity. After rolling for the basics and filling in some details we work through filling in the Diverse Character Worksheet, this time creating a villain in a campaign. Shortly after that we had a basic understanding of who Ianben was. The Rock Gnome Former Guild Artisan, who's life was turned on its head when he was sued for malpractice for creating bad art. His life fell apart and he became a villain, a fighter who was going to get vengeance on those that took away his guild status by any means necessary.

Fynn came into this episode wanting to create a character who has been experiencing intense existential dread and anxiety. After rolling for the basics and filling in some details we work through filling in the Diverse Character Worksheet. Shortly after that we had a basic understanding of who Shranak was. The Githyanki Travelling Merchant then got more fleshed out as we determined at what degree his existential crisis affects and has affected his life.

Hello! Thanks for joining us for our first official episode of the Build An OpenWorld podcast!
It made perfect sense that my first guest be my brother, Sawyer. We both learned about GURPS together when we were kids, we have been obsessed with tabletop board games for most of our lives and he was my first DM in a game of Dungeons and Dragons.
Just like me, Sawyer is most familiar with D&D 5e, so we use this system along with my Diverse Character Worksheet to make the first character to join OpenWorld. Sawyer builds characters based on an Ancestry/Race & Class combo first and then makes a story that fits that combo – so that is how we made this character.
We came into this episode without any ideas before hand and rolled for a class and just went from there. We start with a loose concept that results in Gimrigg the Hill Dwarf Sorcerer. Once we dive deeper into who this character is, we discover he is a cultist. The conversation then turns into how cultists are seen in traditional D&D in contrast to how someone who joins a cult in real life is viewed. We also interchange the character's name Gimrigg for Grimrigg multiple times during this episode.

Hello!
Welcome to the Build an OpenWorld podcast!
My name is Knox Adams and I am the host of this podcast and I play all sorts of roles here at OpenWorld!
This is just a quick preview of what the podcast is, what we will be doing and letting you know that it is bound to evolve over time! The over all goal is to make characters for tabletop roleplaying games that amplify and celebrate them for their diversities. By doing this we hope that you the listeners find inspiration on how you can create diverse characters and inclusive spaces in your own games.
