The Battle of Crete took place during the Second World War in 1941 when Nazi Germany invaded the island from the air. Greek and Allied forces alongside civilians defended the island as German Paratroopers were used for the first time on a large scale.
The battle ended in a loss for allied forces with many of our troops giving their lives to help defend the island .
The Battle of Crete Memorial Committee WA has been seeking to erect a designated war memorial in Kings Park to recognise the sacrifices made by ANZACs and Greeks in the Battle of Crete campaign.
Committee Members Bill Evangel and Mike McDonald joined Harvey to explain why this memorial is needed and how close they are to getting it approved.
