My guest is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Carvin Haggins.
Carvin is best known for receiving two Grammy awards, collaborating with such artists as Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Jill Scott, Patti Labelle, Mary J. Blige, Music Soulchild, Rick Ross, Mario, Ace Hood and many others. The multi- platinum producer / songwriter has received over 25 Grammy nominations and 10 ASCAP writer awards.
He was named Philly 360 Creative Ambassador of Philadelphia. Also he serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Angel Foundation; and he is often invited to speak to young people about his life journey and experiences at various nonprofit organizations and functions. In addition, Haggins is also a Minister and Sunday School teacher at the Southern Baptist Church in North Philadelphia.

In the 2011–12 NFL playoffs with the 49ers, Davis caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Alex Smith against the New Orleans Saints, referred to as "The Catch III". In 2015, he was traded to the Denver Broncos, where he won Super Bowl 50 with the team over the Carolina Panthers. Davis then signed with the Washington Redskins in 2016, where he played until his retirement following the 2019 season.
Davis attended Truesdell Elementary in Washington, D.C., and later attended Paul Public Charter School for middle school. However, Paul did not have a football team, and thus Davis played for neighboring MacFarland Middle School. He went on to attend Dunbar High School in Washington. He was a letterman in football, basketball, and track & field. Rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, Davis was listed as the fourth-best tight end prospect of the class of 2003] At Dunbar, he was teammates with future Cleveland Browns kick return specialist and wide receiver, Josh Cribbs.
In track & field, Davis recorded a personal best of 10.7 seconds in the 100 meters, and was the DCIAA champion in the high jump with a jump of 6 ft 6 in (198 cm). He was also a member of the 4 × 100 m (43.68s) relay squad.
Today, Two-time pro bowler and Super Bowl champion Vernon Davis, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Washington Commanders, is also a star player as a member of the “Union” ensemble cast. Filmed a the Set in the heart of Northeast Washington, “Union” at the iconic Union District Oyster Bar. It is one of the first sitcoms about such a location that is filmed in an actual, operating bar.

I am a Music Lover of All Styles, Generations. This Week I Flashback.......
The Soul Survivors, originally from New York City, grew up listening to the R & B groups of the 1950’s. The sounds of groups like the Moonglows, Heartbeats, and Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers had a great influence on brothers Charlie and Rich Ingui. With various street corner groups, they developed their vocal skills. While in high school, Charlie joined the vocal group from Queens, N.Y. the Dedications. When, a year later the group’s lead singer decided to leave, brother Rich was recruited. While performing at clubs in the New York area, they found themselves at the mercy of various house bands and decided to find a group of musicians who would become permanent members of the group therefore creating a self contained unit. The group would be renamed THE SOUL SURVIVORS.
Shortly thereafter, the group began to build a strong following, playing venues in Atlantic City and Philadelphia. Enjoying great success in Philadelphia, they attracted the attention of record producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Into the recording studio they went, emerging with " Expressway To Your Heart " a song that would climb to #3 on Billboard's R&B chart and #4 on it's Top 100 list. The success of " Expressway " became Gamble and Huff's first "crossover" hit when it began to be played on both black and white radio stations. It's success enabled Gamble and Huff to reach the large audiences they sought in order to bring their " Sound Of Philadelphia " to the mass Market. In polls taken by both the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia’s City Paper, " Expressway" was voted the number one record ever to come out of Philadelphia. "Expressway " was followed by two other chart records, "Explosion In My Soul" and " Mission Impossible". Their first album, released in 1968, was " When The Whistle Blows ". A second LP, on Atco Records, called "Take Another Look" appeared in 1969.
During this time, the group toured extensively throughout the U.S. appearing with many different types of artists...everyone from Jackie Wilson, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles to Janis Joplin, the Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, Sly and the Family Stone and countless others. In 1974, the Soul Survivors reunited with Gamble and Huff to record their self titled album "The Soul Survivors" on TSOP Records. It was written and performed in a style that would define the unique sound of The Soul Survivors.The album produced "City Of Brotherly Love" which would show up on Billboard’s R&B Top 100 and become the group’s fourth charted outing.

20 years ago, on February 4, 2004, in a small theater in Yelm, WA, a little documentary that would radically shift and reinvigorate the New Thought Movement opened in its first theater.
Hailed as the sleeper of the year by multiple top filmmaking magazines, What The BLEEP Do We Know?! went on to play on over 500 screens in the United States and become a worldwide phenomenon. The film advanced radically new ideas and introduced new leaders in New Thought, such as Dr Joe Dispenza and Lynn McTaggart. 20 years later, it still enjoys wide audience appeal and recognition for its impact.

Boggs served eight years in the U.S. Army as a regular officer and was honorably discharged. She was also one of the first women to receive a congressional appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. After law school, Boggs returned to Washington D.C. where she worked as an U.S. Army officer and attorney at the Pentagon and White House Office of Legal Counsel. From 1987 to 1988 Boggs served on the Iran-Contra Legal Task Force for which she earned the Defense Meritorious Service Award and Presidential Service Badge.
In 1988, Boggs became an assistant U.S. attorney in the Western District of the State of Washington, where she prosecuted fraud and regulatory crimes and twice earned the U.S. Department of Justice Special Achievement Award. Working as a trial lawyer specializing in corporate civil litigation, Boggs was in 1995 named the first African American female partner of Seattle, Washington’s Preston Gates & Ellis LLP. In 1997, she became Dell Corporation’s first African American female vice president. She returned to Seattle in 2002, serving as Starbucks Corporation’s first African American Executive Vice President, when she became general counsel and board secretary, a role she held until 2012. Boggs formed the Paula Boggs Band in 2007 releasing albums in 2010, 2015 and 2017. She founded Boggs Media, LLC in 2013.
Boggs was honored with the Secretary of Defense Award for Excellence in 1994, the 2006 American Bar Association Spirit of Excellence Award, the 2008 Wiley A. Branton Award from the National Bar Association and the American Bar Association Notable Member Award in 2013. In 2014, Boggs earned the Song of the Year© Award for “Look Straight Ahead” and is a voting member of the Recording Academy (The Grammys©).
In addition to her legal and music careers, Boggs was a member of the White House Council for Community Solutions from 2010 to 2012, and the President’s Committee for the Arts and Humanities from 2013 to 2017. She served on the boards of School of Rock LLC, Seattle Art Museum, public radio station KEXP, Johns Hopkins University and served as Legal Aid for Washington (LAWFUND) board president from 2006 to 2008. She serves on the boards of Avid Technology Inc., Seattle Symphony and American Bar Association Board of Governors. Boggs was inducted into the Johns Hopkins University ROTC Hall of Fame in 2016 and received the Seattle Mayor’s 2018 Arts Award.
