Walk in the fear of the Lord
Act 9:31 (ESV)
31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.
What does it mean to walk in fear of the Lord?
In reading the Bible you can see that the fear of the Lord is shown by awe and reverence for who He is.
Pro 1:7 (ESV)
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Awe and respect for God should guide and direct our every move!

Walk in the fear of the Lord
Everything you do and say should be motivated by awe and respect for God.
-
Act 9:32 (ESV) Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda.
Peter was carrying out his responsibility as an apostle – founder, descent one. He was checking on and encouraging those who are walking with Christ.
Peter‘s motivation was to honor and glorify the creator God – his Lord and Savior.

Act 9:33 (ESV) There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed.
Aeneas is not called a “disciple”. Yet Peter “found” him which implies that Peter was seeking!
Walk in the fear of the Lord
God can work His miracles on a non-believer just as easily as on anyone.
Act 3:1-10 (ESV)
1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
2 And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple.
3 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms.
4 And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.”
5 And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them.
6 But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”
7 And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong.
8 And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.
9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God,
10 and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
God can work His power on anyone He chooses. What is God‘s purpose in these miracles?
His purpose is to glorify and honor His name and in His perfect wisdom He does so in many different ways.
Don’t seek after things that benefit you…
Walk in the fear of the Lord
Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…
Without reverence for God, you cannot be effective and, in the end, you WILL not be in heaven!

Act 9:34 (ESV) And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.” And immediately he rose.
Peter does not claim any power himself, nor does he hesitate.
Clearly Peter was communicating with God’s Spirit and knew the will of God to display His power at this instant and in this instance.
Peter was walking in the fear of the Lord NOT in pursuit of his own glory or honor!

Herod and the people of Tyre and Sidon
Act 12:22-23 (ESV)
22 And the people were shouting, “The voice of a god, and not of a man!”
23 Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.

Act 9:35 (ESV) And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
Obedience to the Lord reveals and unleashes His power to transform.
