Building Resilience with Jenny Eden

Jenny Eden – Show Notes

Body love is a multifaceted problem.  It not just that we have these vessels that we are ambivalent about.  We need to change the conversation.  Not that we have looove our bodies but more like understanding, respecting, listening to, and appreciating.

When someone loves their body they are grounded, they have a warm smile, they are embodied.

"Let's work together and do the best possible things we can do in life."

We begin with agreeing to be fully present in our body rather than numbing out.  Where are you experiencing stress, or pleasure?  Are you experiencing your senses?  When you can reframe your thoughts, and what your body if for, then you can step into body reverence.  From that place of worthiness and embodiment we can then make choices that support this vessel that we have; not for anyone else but for ourselves.

The problem is the societal belief that there is only one type of beauty.

As parents we can only lay down foundations of self-love.  But we have to be vigilant about the messages that are coming in from society.

Girls and women have been taught that our purpose is to be pleasing to the eye.  If we drop all that stuff there is so much more we can do in our lives.  We can love deeper, we can contribute more.

We want love, sense of belonging, included, protected and safe.  Unfortunately we think we will get these things if we only conform to societies idea of beauty because that is the message we are sold.

Jenny curate's her Facebook feed with body positive people, with diverse bodies, so she knows about the diversity that exists in the world.  Everybody looks different and that it how it should be.  Surround yourself with people are not judgemental and who support your body philosophy.  Find your tribe of people who resonate with your message.

Mindful eating is the idea of not just slowing down while eating but be fully present to the experience of eating.  Bringing a level of awareness that is not typically there.  No multi-tasking while eating – choose eating as the activity.  You get to listen to how your body is feeling on a deeper level.  You also get to appreciate how the food got to our plate and all those who were involved in the production.

There is no morality in food.  But different foods affect our bodies in different ways.  We need to learn to trust and listen to our bodies in a very deep level.  Don't give your power over to other people to tell you what to do or not do.  How does your body respond to food?

We have all the answers that we need – we just need to run the experiment and listen and trust.

Once you have the foundation of worthiness then from that place you make decisions that bolster that.

The importance of eating for pleasure and with awareness.  Pleasure has to be part of the equation in order for your body to get the message that it has had enough.

Documentary – Embrace

We talk about how men are now being exposed to the same message and pressures.

If you don't task risks and explore your edges and explore your fears then you stay stagnant.  All the growth happens when you get uncomfortable.

The movie – Unbroken.  That is the epitome of resilience.
