You know you need better boundaries. So why do you keep breaking the ones you've already set?
If you've ever found yourself replying to clients at 9 p.m., working when you promised yourself you'd switch off, overdelivering because you're scared you're not doing enough, or saying yes when you desperately want to say no this episode is for you.
Because the truth is, you probably don't have a problem setting boundaries. You have a problem holding them.
In this episode of Built From Within, we're taking a deep dive into why boundaries can feel so uncomfortable for female founders and business owners. We're exploring the subconscious fears underneath people-pleasing, overworking and constantly being available and why your brain can make breaking your boundaries feel like the safest option.
We'll talk about the fear of disappointing people, being seen as difficult or selfish, losing clients, missing opportunities and questioning whether you're really worth the money you're charging.
And most importantly, I'm sharing a simple four-step process to help you stop constantly abandoning your own boundaries and start building a business that doesn't consume every bit of your time, energy and attention.
The prompts from this episode
Take some time to sit with these questions:
If you say no, what are you worried someone will think about you?
If you are less available, what do you believe will happen?
If you stop overdelivering, what are you afraid will happen?
If you stop overworking, what do you believe will happen?
The four-step boundary process
- Choose one boundary you already know you're not holding.
- Feel the discomfort when you're tempted to break it. Notice the thoughts and fears that come up.
- Hold the boundary. Allow yourself to experience the discomfort without immediately fixing it.
- Collect the evidence. What actually happens when you don't reply? When you say no? When you stop overdelivering?
