The bums are back in the rail yard with S6:E0149 — and a “first time ever” occurrence; a personal tie-in to Northwestern University’s top ranked long-snapper; the Chicago Bears make off season moves tougher with the exits of Center Drew Dahlman and possession receiver DJ Moore; thoughts floated on the NFL Combine; USA Hockey gets a co-ed gold; the new voice of Sunday Night Baseball gets enthusiastic thumbs up as JB takes the lead mic (not everyone is that lucky — Brooks Boyer); loyal fan Rude Dude shares an awesome stat (Spartan style).

The back nine features a solid gold, double beer review — spread across two regions and timezones with Silver Bluff Brewing’s “Golden Isles” (7.2% ABV) and River St. Joe Brewing’s “Golden” (4.5% ABV), British-style Golden Ale — dynamite notes and flavors abound; Part 1 of Paddy’s travelogue across state lines is memorialized; Rocky gets a new whip; the City of Chicago’s city sticker and license registration can go fuck itself; and close as Paddy has an interaction issue.  Get some before the Day Light Savings Time flip fucks up your equilibrium.

The bums are back in the rail yard with S6:E0148 — Chicago sports news is limited (crickets are deafening); talk is relegated to the Winter Olympics in Italy, where the Canadian curlers appear guilty of an egregious foul at the hog line; Eileen Gu’s words smack somewhere between opportunism and traitorous; the USA hockey teams are golden in 3-on-3 OT; Mike Cronin is a pre-certified fucking lunatic; thoughts, prayers and great memories to former Cub Kris “Blue Eyes” Bryant; and close as the MLB Players Union is in a stand-off with ownership.

The flip-side starts with another infamous beer review, at the hands of River St. Joe Brewing Company’s “Farmhouse Pale Ale” (ABV 6.5%), a much improved experience and quality (tune-in for the deets); bon voyage to beloved American actor Robert “Tom Hagen” Duvall; an update ensues with Kalshi — the bet on anything and everything app; Scary Mary on the needle; and close with a simple pleasure courtesy of a local car wash.   Get some, because let’s face it — there is NOTHING else going on until pro baseball starts.

The bums return to the rail yard with S6:E0147 — as the top rolls eyes with a post Super Bowl bow tying — and the NFL sleeps until the next campaign starts (and we don’t want to hear SHIT about the NFL draft until April Fool’s Day at the very earliest); Paddy and heiress visit Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston (advice includes wearing your skinny jeans); Sconnie hoops are legit; a Lindsey Vonn update makes “break a leg” a literal reality; and the only other thing to discuss is the Winter Olympics — headlined by curling— and Jake “Everyone Hates You” Paul’s fiancé — a Dutch speed skater with assets.  

The second half bounces into another infamous Beer review that features River Saint Joe’s self-titled “Pilsner” (ABV 4%) — a super light, musty nosed pils that resembles Ultra but tastes better (crowler effect notwithstanding); the Kalshi betting platform will let you bet on Spaulding’s booger eating or anything else that floats your boat; a pre-trip Travelogue featuring Eddie’s eldest, who’s heading to an American city larger than NYC, and 3X larger than metro-Chicago by population; Paddy shares a book review “The Boys in the Light” (by Nina Willner) — a WWII era attention grabber; fan talk from Rude Dude — and Lefty (desperately seeking answers).   Get some, because really, it’s all there is until March Madness and MLB baseball get rolling.  No excuses.

The Bums are back in the rail yard with S6:E0146, a pre-Super Bowl extravaganza of NFL updates and premonitions; the case is made for “taking the fucking points” (and responsible use of data & analytics); NFL head coaching changes are reviewed (our O/U of 5.5 was not close); the Steelers are very “unSteelery”; the NFL HoF committee inexplicably snubs Coach Belichick (make it make sense); College Athletics is a dead man walking Harvard Business case in what not to do; FSU and Rutgers are deep in the red; and the Bums are in awe of Lindsey Vonn.

The second half buckles down with another infamous beer review, featuring Lyon, IL’s BuckleDown Brewing and their “Crackle and Pop” (ABV 6.0%) winter brown ale that presents like a barrel-aged stout by drinks like an ale (delish); a very limited preview of cinema’s own Super Bowl, and associated nominees— the Oscar’s; McDonald’s has lost it’s mind with a special freebie stunt; latest RIP alum features beloved actress Catherine “reverse heart” O’Hara and actor Demond “Lamont” Wilson; Ts & Ps to Savannah Guthrie and family (as the search for MIA mom continues); Paddy and daughter take on the Big Apple’s largest borough; and close with a shout-out to Prime Video’s ‘The Night Manager — Season 2’ (a decade late).  Get some and catch up before SB LV kicks off!

The Bums are back in the rail yard with Episode 0145, popping off with NFL playoffs chatter focused on Frosty the Iceman’s inaugural post-season campaign and pre-Super Bowl updates; the NFL coaching stove is red-hot; in JV news,  MLBIU makes itself some history across two sports; MLB’s hall of fame nominees and awards are becoming a joke; the Mets have an interesting quota to fill, Latin style; the LA Dodgers are buying the league (damnation); and close with south-side trade-news.

The back cracks off with another intergalactically famous beer review featuring Old Irving Brewing’s “Walking West” (5.2% ABV), a Mexican style lager made in collaboration with a local neighborhood home brew cohort (“TBD Home Brewing”) — muy bueno; Rocky’s rupture sets him back, but he picks up a new talent in solidarity with his favorite NFL QB; Paddy shares a travelogue from his trip to American’s nearest island; airplane etiquette is chronicled; and close with new curriculum at the University of Kansas.  Get some to prep for American’s favorite Sunday holiday.

The bums kickoff a brand new season and new year with a special guest, JK — who comes on break from The United States Military Academy at West Point; Paddy leads JK through the gauntlet (a special guest tradition); talk turns to the Chicago Bears and their last two barn burners (fuck the Packers) — as the legend of Frosty The Iceman grows; NFL teams are choking like a 20-year old snowblower; Atlanta Falcons have woken, let’s see if they can repeat; DeKaylin Zecharius may have blown the Steelers playoff chances; Stefan Diggs in hot water with his personal chef; Dan Campbell is on Rocky’s radar still (The Unforgiven); the NFL coach carousel spins on the cusp of Black Monday (the bums set the O/U at 5.5); Chip Kelly joins the NWU coaches pool (ugh); and end part 1 with a jab at ND, who have been rightfully embargoed by USC to end a long-standing tradition. 

Part two starts with another intergalactically famous double booze review, with BuckleDown Brewing’s “Hike and Bike” (4.2% ABV) — courtesy of Big D, a super lightweight session lager that starts well but falls a bit flat — followed by an Irish Whiskey for the ages with “Red Spot 15 Year Old” (92 proof, 42% alcohol), a single pot still Irish whiskey from Mitchell & Son, their oldest age-stated bottle in the Spot range — with amazing notes and finishes; the bums get the scoop from JK on his amazing West Point experience, as he prepares for the first leg of his military career as an officer.   Get patriotic and ring in the New Year with some bums

The bums close out Season 5 with Episode 0143 — still walking on air after the Bears blow-out victory vs. woeful Cleveland; Week 16 injury report reads like a M.A.S.H. unit heading into Midwest Super Bowl Saturday vs. the Fucking Packers; Kevin Warren gets lit up like a Christmas tree (stupid ploy or not); Rocky has a Plan B that may surprise you (but not Paddy); speaking of Paddy, he hammers down a TNF IDNKT segment; NFL week in review is littered with torn ACLs; Old Man Rivers doesn’t die on the field; and close the top as TJ Finley is the poster child for what’s wrong with JV football.

The bottom gets awfully boozy with a first ever TRIPLE review, featuring  Mikerphone Brewing’s “La Cuca Negra” (ABV 5.4%), a Mexican Style dark lager; OIB’s 2020 Krampus Cookies (ABV 13.0%), a 12-year Barton Bourbon Barrel-aged Imperial Milk Stout w/ vanilla and chocolate nibs (yummy), and “Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Pinot Noir Cask Finish Irish Whiskey” (ABV 43% / 86 Proof), a very unique drop from The Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo, Ireland — we’re drunk AF; Rocky gets a new pillow and also bemoans Spotify’s Year in Review results; and close with a celebration of life for Robert Norman ‘Meathead’ Reiner and Michele Single Reiner (very sad— and also fuck DJT).   Better unbox the final podcast of the season before the Grinch steals it.

The bums reconvene in the rail yard with S5:0142, on the top, as Paddy and Rocky return un-killed from their Lambeau experience and the Bears heartbreaking loss (cliff notes: fuck the Packers); Cole “Falling Down” Kmet has issues; NFL Week in review highlighting the Colts brand new old grandpa QB (and Cam Newton is butt sore); Just Herbert just wants to chill with his homies after an OT loss (social media ain’t having it); Ann Arbor is on suicide watch— for good reason; potential Michigan coaching replacements; IU football news; ND can seriously go fuck themselves OR, OR, they can join a conference; MLB HOF chatter ensures as Barry Bonds may go the way of Pete Rose; and close the top half with a buyout for the ages.

The flop pops off with another miraculous beer review with “Slim Hazy” (ABV 5.5%) from Mikerphone Brewing, a dynamite Double Dry Hopped Pale Ale that pleases the palate; Paddy saves two-thirds of the bums from the jaws of almost certain death (it’s a trap!); you may hate the Packers but it’s impossible to hate the Lambeau experience; Eddie rips Rotten Apple with another SIMS installment; Old Irving Brewing’s 2025 Krampus Market dazzles; and in an unexpected kind gesture, Paddy has a kind word for a former Cub.  All the Packers hate alone is worth a listen.

The bums make a triumphant return to the rail yard with S5:E0141 —blasting into the top a critical Chicago Bears report as 66% of the bums head north of the cheddar curtain; an NFL weekly recap ensues; Eddie walks MLNFL conference finals and CFB “rankings”; Lane K gonna Lane K; college head coach rumors are flying like monkeys in the Wizard of Oz; Players Era Tourney nets $1M for 1st and steak knives for the runner-up; the bums ponder UM hoops as a force to be reckoned with; NBA Emirates Cup is flowing over — with blood money; the Greek Freak is Checking the Street and CP3 gets a pink slip (the bad kind).

The back page turns with another kickass Beer review with “Snow Demon” (ABV 10%), a popular, annual Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout fromJackalope Brewing Company in Nashville, best known for its rich coffee (Frothy Monkey) and cacao (Olive & Sinclair) notes — slightly thinner than most Winter ass-kickers but flavor forward; Holiday Bye Week on the docket; a pair of Chow Reports with Ja Grill and Puesto; Paddy reports on Chicago’s infamous, dedicated bike lanes (because hipsters must get their way); Susan Dell is a scary looking mess (please stop); and close with thoughtful Holiday season advice.   Be jolly, and listen to the bums ho ho!

The bums are back in the rail yard with S5:E0140, where part 1 flips straight into Chicago Bear talk and reports; Jake Moody plays footsie for the Commies; NFL Week in Review; Football’s minor league is beleaguered; James Franklin is PSU’s personal ATM; MLB HOF candidates recounted; sad ending for a die-hard Cleveland sports fan but Bernie Kosar gets a boost. 

The second part is bolts into another universally relevant and praised beer review, with BuckleDown Brewing’s “Belt” (ABV 7.0%), a well balanced IPA that does Lyons, IL proud; the bums give thanks, two very good bio-docs are reviewed, “Being Eddie” and “American Badass”; Paddy delivers early morning criticism with “Wanted Man” (avoid like the plague); engagement ring in the cup story; a customer service overlord dictates associate moods; and Paddy has nothing but distain for assholes who ignore crosswalks with flashing lights.   Better late than never.  Get it now!
