As believers, we should desire to worship God in a way that is pleasing to Him. The problem that we face is that not all worship is acceptable to God. What characterizes -acceptable worship--

As we grow in spiritual maturity, our -worship in holiness- should also mature. Mature worship is marked by giving God what He desires, rather than what we desire, and a healthy reverence and fear of God.

When Jesus addresses the woman at the well about worshiping God, He says that God is looking for true worshipers. By considering the biblical reputation of dogs, we can get a good understanding of what it means to be a true worshiper.

-Do all things decently and in order- is Paul's summary about how worship in the church should be conducted. At the end of 1 Corinthians 14, Paul gives several examples of how order should be the rule as we come together to worship the Lord.

The message of John the Baptist can be summed up in one word - Repent. True repentance is manifested through the -fruits meet for repentance.-

The Apostle Paul contrasts the spiritual gifts of tongues and prophecy in 1 Corinthians 14, and concludes that prophecy is superior to tongues because it edifies the church. And he says that the key to edification is understanding. So Paul sets the precedent of understanding as the foundation of all worship.

At the end of 1 Corinthians 13, the Apostle Paul compares the permanence of love with the temporariness of spirtual gifts, showing why love is preeminent over everything else.

When Paul said that love superceded any practice of spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 13, what did he mean- What was that love supposed to look like and act like- In verses 4-8, he describes true love in detail, so that there is no doubt about what true Christian love is.

The Apostle Paul discusses spiritual gifts at length in chapters 12 and 14 of 1 Corinthians. And right in the middle of it sits chapter 13 - the Love chapter. As he begins his dissertation on love, Paul uses extreme examples of spiritual gifts to help us understand that it is not all about me.
