Courses are an important part of learning a skill but be careful. A lot of course sellers sell on emotion instead of how useful their courses are.

Learning a skill takes time and a lot of patience. Getting to the point where you can apply that skill to projects also takes time.

Keep your upfront cost low when learning a skill and you'll be fine. Being a freelancer requires a lot of upkeep in the beginning before you get established.

Don't get too personal. Choose a platform you like. If you're a ghost writer, don't bother. If you have an e-commerce store, do bother.

Somewhere in between? Keep it professional and don't worry about clout.
