Join Mark at the Mic as he sits down with Dr. Susan Jane Matthews.  Susan just celebrated her 20th anniversary as the Director of Music at the this historic church having been founded in 1908.  Susan takes us on a journey from her college days majoring in chemistry, to a couple of of years of med school and ultimately finding her passion in music specializing in playing the organ. She has performed solo concerts in the USA and Europe.  Susan was the main organist at the famous Grace Cathedral in San Francisco for 4 years prior to coming to St. Pauls.  While at St. Pauls she has founded the St. Pauls Choir for children grades k-12.  In addition she takes the choir to England to perform at various churches and cathedrals.  A wonderful and informative oral history.

In this episode Mark at the Mic has a wonderful conversation with the "unofficial Mayor" of Broadway Burlingame, John Kevranian.   John and his wife Nora have owned the prolific shop on Broadway for over 30 years.  John shares his "wish list" for he and the Broadway merchants. He also recalls his days of coming to America as a 9yr old immigrant from Lebanon not knowing a word of English.  John and Nora have 3 children, 2 girls and one son all who have graduated from the UC  system. In a flashback episode, Mark at the Mic visited "Sandwich Czar" Rino Betti for a fun conversation on how Rino and his long time companion and wife June built an iconic Burlingame sandwich shop, named "Sam's," which was in business for 38 years.  Rino talks of the origins of the shop, shares his famous sandwich dressing, announces that he was the creator of "Cheese Please" on the corner of Burlingame Ave and Calif.  He also remembers with sentiment how his loyal customers came to his aid with a "go fund me" account created by Cathy Baylock and Russ Cohen to help him move from his Calif Dr location to "The Depot" on Howard Ave.  A wonderful walk down memory lane.

Mark at the Mic had an afternoon conversation with the current Mayor and 3.5 year councilman Peter Stevenson.  Ironically, Peter was a guest 3.5 years ago when he was running for city council.  The fellas discussed Peter's top priorities and challenges for the City, downtown development, including ideas for Broadway Burlingame, transportation and safety.  Mark at the Mic also makes a plea for a 4th of July parade or any day parade to keep the "Burlingame, its a Small Town" feeling.  A fun and informative episode.
