Burnout: how to recognize, prevent, and manage it so that you can build your business

Listen Later

In this episode of Getting Rich After Divorce, we talk about Burnout and how to recognize, prevent, and manage it so that you can build your business

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion that results from prolonged or chronic stress, particularly related to work or caregiving.  As a divorced woman, you are at a high risk for burnout anyway, but as a divorced woman running your own business, you are definitely going to be learning how to take care of yourself better than you ever have before so that Burnout does not prevent you from building your business and your life the way you want it to be.

Physical symptoms of burnout to notice ASAP:

  • Fatigue
  • Listlessness
  • Headaches
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • High blood pressure
  • Poor immune function (getting sick more often)
  • Sleep issues
  • Reduced libido
  • Mental/Emotional symptoms to notice:

    Irritability

Less confident than you used to be

Loss of interest in work that you previously enjoyed

    Concentration issues

    • Depressed mood
    • Feeling less worthy
    • Imposter syndrome
    • Loss of interest or pleasure in things you used to like
    • If you identify with these symptoms at all, then you may be skating on the edge of burnout or in full blown burnout. If you do feel you have some burnout symptoms, the key to healing is understanding you are at risk and learning as much as you can about how to get through it, while keeping your business going.

Too often, women will feel at the mercy of these symptoms and make the symptoms mean that they are not equipped to build a business “at this time” or at all. However, you can still go after your dreams while learning to spot and drop burnout.

This is why we built an anti-burnout plan into our business membership lesson plan. It is vital for divorced women to learn about burnout and learn to keep it at bay while they build their businesses.

Here’s what happens if you don’t deal with burnout:

      • Prevent you from starting your business altogether
      • Slow you down from growing your business
      • It will make you quit your business permanently, when you could have kept going with the right support and guidance
      • An anti-burnout plan is a proactive strategy to prevent or alleviate burnout. It involves identifying and implementing strategies that can help reduce stress, increase resilience, and promote overall well-being. Here are some steps to develop an anti-burnout plan:

        1. Recognize the signs of burnout
        2. Identify your stressors
        3. Develop healthy habits
        4. Set boundaries
        5. Seek support
        6. Regularly assess your plan
