This week’s guest on “Bursting the Bubble” is Brian Webb. Brian is the director of the Center for Sustainability at Houghton College and joins Mike and JL to talk about the work of the Center for Sustainability. Brian is also an avid outdoorsman and shares how his love of the outdoors and his concern for people are central to his work with creation care.

Each fall for the last 40 years, a group of Houghton freshmen have begun their college journey with a two-week outdoor adventure that we call the Highlander Wilderness Adventure. This week, Mike and JL are joined by Laura Alexeichik to learn more about this special opportunity for first-year students. Laura is a 2001 graduate of Houghton and the current director of the Highlander Wilderness Adventure. She also serves as chair of the Sport, Recreation and Wellness department at Houghton and directs the annual summer equestrian camp.

Reverend Julian Cook is the guest on this week's program to talk about the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. Reverend Cook is a 2013 graduate of Houghton College and later received his M.Div from Boston University School of Theology. He is the director of Houghton College Buffalo East Side and also serves as Senior Pastor of Buffalo's Historic Macedonia Baptist Church. 

Mike and JL speak with two special guests on this week’s program as recent Houghton graduate Emily Allen and Philosophy professor, Ben Lipscomb give an insider’s view on Houghton’s London Honors semester. Emily received her BA in Theology from Houghton and will serve as teaching assistant for the upcoming London Semester. Ben is the director of Houghton’s honors program and provides some insight into this unique program for first-year students.

Mike and JL welcome Linda Knapp to the first program of 2020 to hear about "Adventures in East Africa." Linda is co-leader of Houghton's East Africa study-abroad program along with her husband, Eli. She is an adjunct professor of anthropology at Houghton and a 2001 Houghton alum.

This week, Mike and JL are joined by Dr. Ken Schenck to discuss some of the issues covered in his course entitled "Science and Scripture". Dr. Schenck is a New Testament scholar and serves, currently, as Vice President for Planning and Innovation at Houghton College

 Dr. Judy Congdon is Professor of Organ and Harpsichord at Houghton College. She joins Mike and JL to discuss Advent and Christmas on this week's program. 

Dr. Solis-Walker is a native of South Jersey, she grew up with Spanish as her native tongue in a large Puerto Rican community.  She is an ordained Wesleyan pastor and a sought-after speaker in many different contexts.  She has a PhD in Organizational Leadership and Development with an emphasis on Ecclesial Leadership; she is a certified coach for multi-ethnic churches and organizations and has previously served as the Assistant Dean of Global Theological Education at Wesley Seminary of IWU.  She currently teaches classes at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and speaks all over the US.  She also has just started a new venture called Camino Road, which she’ll share a bit about today.
