Bush remembers how he picked Cheney to be his VP

George W. Bush recently recalled how he chose Dick Cheney as his vice president during a eulogy at Cheney's funeral. Bush had initially enlisted Cheney to lead the search for his running mate, only to realize after weeks of working together that the best candidate was the man "sitting right in front of" him. In 2000, as the presumptive Republican nominee, Bush asked the experienced Cheney, a former White House chief of staff and Secretary of Defense, to manage the search for a running mate.
