The 2019 Australia summer started early and hit hard. By the time fires were brought under control, more than 12.6 million hectares of land had burnt and scientists and fire personnel are warning that this is Australia's new reality due to the climate crisis.

Professor Will Steffen is a climate change expert and a researcher at the Australian National University. He's been studying a range of temperature gauges around the globe, some over 200 years old.
