Computer Backups During Covid-19
COVID, computers, and copying your data out of the cloud. We're in unreal, crazy times at the moment, and it has to be said a lot of people are regretting their move to the cloud. A lot of people are loving it as well because they're going, "Huh, you know what? Sweet. I'm in the cloud, this is great. I can access everything from home." It is good.

Internet Speeds Are Slowing Down
The problem that we've got is the loads that we've seen on the internet over the last few weeks haven't increased by 10 or 20%, haven't increased by 30%, it's increased by about 300%. And that means that we've seen the likes of Office 365 yo-yoing up and down, G Suite yo-yoing up and down. We've seen lots of core business services going up and down. Things that wouldn't happen if business owners spent the money on business-grade internet connections and kept their infrastructure local.
Get Localised Copies of Your Data
Having said that, if you have made the decision to move to the cloud, it'd be a very sensible idea to make sure that you've got localised copies that you can set to schedule to download at night. So whether that be through Dropbox, OneDrive or anything like that, make sure you go out, buy bigger drives, and have everything copied locally. That way it's going to be much, much quicker when you go to open up that document.
Backups, Backups, and More Backups
If the kids are home now for the next few weeks and you want to make sure things are staying nice, and quick, and efficient, these are things that you need to be keeping in mind and doing. So, try to keep a localised copy of the data that you can where you can. This is going to become even more important over the next few weeks as we see internet outages and blackouts across Australia, and also on an international scale. Keep your data local and make sure you have backups. If you don't know where your remote workforce is backing their data up to, find out. See what you can do to see where the files are going.
The Final Word
If something goes terribly wrong and your IT company blows up and disappears, where do you go to get your data back-up? Where do you get all of your information? Have a disaster recovery process and policy in place so that you can prevent these kinds of situations happening. If you've enjoyed this, make sure to jump across to iTunes, give us some love, and some feedback, and let us know what your thoughts are. Stay good and stay healthy.

COVID for Computers
COVID for computers, it's coming. It's triple C. COVID for computers is coming, think about that. Where do our electronics come from? This is going to be a bit of a speculative episode more than anything else, but most of our electronics are made in China. We've already seen cases where there have been back doors and hack abilities where people are using automated doorbells, where you click on it and they can see your face. Hackers have been able to go in and spy on these children and the parents weren't even aware there was some weirdo looking at them. Multiple devices that people take for granted on their home networks such as their smart TVs, smart fridges, smart door locks, smart anything on your network, or even your smartphone is a way for you to get broken into.

Don’t Work From Home Without These Tips
I'm being serious, now, guys. I don't normally have this tone when I'm doing a podcast, but we're seeing so many IT companies that are just doing a poor job at setting up their remote workforces. There's been a 41.5% increase in the number of businesses that are now open to threats. That's because they've been intentionally opened. Your business is like a box. If you have no light going into that box, nothing inside the box can spoil potentially. As soon as the light starts going in, though, you can have bacteria and all sorts of things happen, and your business is exactly the same. Your business as a box, when you open up a door, you're going to let all sorts of nasties come in. I'll put a link in the description so you can see how much more, what they call RDP traffic, is out and around on the internet, which is a protocol that can be broken into.

Finance Alternatives with Paul Boyd-Skinner
Our special guest in this episode is Paul from No BNK, a non-bank business and commercial finance solutionist. Paul is a wizard when it comes to looking at a different way that you can do finance, which is especially critical in today's financial climate. He has been involved in nonbank lending for around about 16 years but he has never ever put anybody in a loan with the bank. He explained, 'If I want to borrow money from you, why do I have to go to a bank to do that? You put your money in the bank and then I go and borrow the money from the bank. That's your money that's in the bank. That's not theirs. So why not just borrow directly from you? No BNK is set up where we facilitate accurate information between somebody who wants to borrow money and someone who wants to lend it.' Listen to the podcast or read on to learn more about No BNK.
