Journal Staff Writer Ryan Boetel sits down with Morgan Cannaday, the president of the Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors on this weeks Outlook on Real Estate podcast.

There were major changes recently to home buying, which were brought on when earlier this year the National Association of Realtors and other major real estate brokerages agreed to pay $950 million to settle federal lawsuits that alleged the brokers forced homebuyers to pay inflated commissions during home sales.

In addition to the money settlement, the real estate industry also agreed to policy changes that aim to bring more transparency around how brokers and agents are paid and what services they will provide.

Journal Staff Writer Megan Gleason sits down with our first guests of Outlook on Leadership podcast, Paul Meyer and Cassandra Petrofes.

It’s not easy to balance a career and a master’s program, but Paul Meyer and Cassandra Petrofes are doing it anyway. The two are part of different classes of the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Management’s Executive Master’s of Business Administration, which is graduate program designed for business professionals. Meyer just finished his first summer term of the two-year program, and Petrofes graduates in May. Both say they’re getting a world-class education here in New Mexico and have already used the leadership skills learned at UNM in their outside careers. Emerging leaders Meyer and Petrofes have decades of experience under their belts. Meyer has lived all over the country and previously served in the submarine force of the U.S. Navy as a nuclear operator. Now, he works as health physics field coordinator at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Petrofes is a certified public accountant and is the fund administration group at Thornburg Investment Management in Santa Fe.

Journal Staff Writer Matthew Narvaiz sits down with our first guest of Outlook on Small Business podcast, Kristelle Siarza Moon who owns Siarza, a full-service advertising and public relations agency based in Albuquerque, and is the volunteer executive director of the Asian Business Collaborative. She’s also an advocate of all things New Mexico and small business.

Siarza Moon is the first guest of the rebranded business podcast from the Albuquerque Journal — now called Business Outlook — which focuses on small businesses, technology, emerging leaders and real estate.

In July, Siarza Moon traveled to the White House with a group of business leaders from the Southwest, including other New Mexicans Caren Phillips from Ravenna Assisted Living and Eric Renz-Whitmore, an economic development specialist with the city of Santa Fe. There, the group spoke with policymakers about the challenges and opportunities facing small businesses in the region. Siarza Moon talked about her trip and some of the unique challenges small business owners in New Mexico face.
