January 26, 2024Mining giants ordered to pay €8.9 billion over 2015 Brazil dam disasterA judge in Brazil has ordered mining giants BHP and Vale, plus their joint iron ore venture project Samarco, to pay the equivalent of €8.9 billion in compensation over the collapse of a dam in 2015. The disaster killed 19 people and severely polluted the Rio Doce river.
