It’s not a slow slide, Christian nationalists are using public schools to run us headlong into religious tyranny. Oklahoma’s state superintendent has decreed that public curricula must include material from the Christian bible, a move he says is inspired by Trump. Louisiana’s Governor, daring his constituents to sue him, has signed a bill mandating the 10 Commandments, using a Protestant translation, must be displayed in every public classroom. And Texas is incentivizing public schools to teach a Christian bible curriculum. One solution we offer if you’re an educated educator in these states: put up a copy of values you believe in alongside these mandates, perhaps the universal rights of children.

The Supreme Court’s decision today on Presidential Immunity has shaken up our understanding of democracy. Dr. Tim and Dr. Johnny are here to break it down and talk about what it means for the future of public education. Our touchstone today is Timothy Snyder’s pamphlet, On Tyranny, 20 lessons to guide us in protecting democracy. We all have a role to play in protecting the institutions that serve our democracy.
