But I Digress Presents: Musicology

We throw the word FREEDOM around a lot, but what does it actually mean?

What does it require?

On this episode of Musicology, we look through six different musical lenses to find out.

FEATURED SONGS

• Freedom - Rage Against the Machine
• American Idiot - Green Day
• Who'll Stand With Us - Dropkick Murphys
• Make it Stop - Rise Against
• Just a Girl - No Doubt
• Take Warning - Operation Ivy

Extras

• IT GETS BETTER Project
• Tim Mcilrath from Rise Against - Commentary on "Make it Stop"
• Nathan Willard - On Tyrants

What does it sound like when music refuses to stay silent? Join AC for a deep dive into the evolution of the protest anthem, right here on Musicology.

In this episode, we trace a lineage of dissent across the decades, exploring five iconic tracks. We start with the 1960s working-class grit of CCR, explode into the raw fury of Rage Against the Machine, hit the high-octane political critique of Green Day, feel the urgent frustration of Sum 41, and finally settle into the haunting spoken-word poetry of Linkin Park.

We explore how these artists used their voices to challenge the world around them, and why that still matters.

The Lineup:

1. Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name
2. Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son
3. Green Day - Holiday
4. Sum 41 - Still Waiting
5. Linkin Park - Hands Held High
