Butterfies or Moths? Trusting Your Gut in Relationships

Listen Later

We live in a culture where intellect and science are revered and feelings tend to be minimized and dismissed. But our emotions and gut instincts can provide valuable wisdom if we learn to trust them. Our intuition is inner wisdom that comes from accumulated life experiences, values, and innate knowledge. It's important to listen to your intuition when making big decisions. At the same time, we need to be aware that our traumas and our general avoidance of discomfort can shape our messaging. That means we need to acknowledge our feelings, but we can't always let them run the show. We need to be aware of other factors, like our attachment style or our love language, that might be influencing our gut reactions. Emotions like fear, anger, joy, etc. contain messages you need to hear. Don't ignore feelings - ask yourself what they are trying to tell you. Trust your gut. If something feels off, pay attention. Your subconscious may be noticing red flags your conscious mind misses. But be mindful that not all gut feelings should be trusted. Reflect on where the feeling is coming from. We unpack all of this via some feminist rants and online quizzes and manage to work in quite a few laughs as well!

Also, we encourage you to try an online quiz to better understand your attachment style and how that can be at play in your relationships. There's lots available, but this is the one Jen did live during the recording!
