A poem by Sheila Bore. BLACK LIVES MATTER
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When death is the only way for people to pay attention
Then we have reached a new level of crazy, it’s worth a mention
It doesn’t take a race to highlight dissention
For when we whispered, spoke and even shouted from the rooftops; it seems, our audience memory is short on retention
Instead it’s best to send us to detention
Insidious discrimination has taken a new form of ascension
For long term atrocities have been thrown at the black colour, people, race, with stigmatization and condescension
Black Lives Matter
This time around it has gone to a new dimension
The pain, the stress, pressure and tension
It’s not just one random incident that needs prevention
It’s the pervasive acceptability, protecting the camouflaged racist with no suspension
This indeed is beyond comprehension
While black lives, young to old, live in apprehension
In societies that silence intervention
Instead, they say the blacks should let the law decide, there is no circumvention
Black Lives Matter
Yet, who is the judge, the jury and executioner to give a GUILTY charge to a case investigated with focused dedicated inattention
Hidden behind law, the streets are new courts are an old invention
We don’t need more meetings, parades or conventions
Black Lives Matter
What we need is change in the subjectivity and commitment to living with intention
To make changes for your own comprehension
As this is the only redemption
