An updated study by Chuck Collins and Omar Ocampo at the Institute for Policy Studies entitled "Billionaire Wealth Concentration Is Even Worse than You Imagine" shows how the wealth of the top 0.1% has increased from $4.5 trillion in 1989 to $22 trillion currently, while the wealth held by the bottom 50 percent of households saw their share of the U.S. wealth pie shrink from 3.4 percent in 1989 to 2.5 percent in 2024, a decline of 26.1 percent. Much of the wealth of the bottom group is tied up in housing, whereas the wealthy have the cash to circumvent democracy and buy the public debate. Omar Ocampo shares the details of their analysis.
