In a three-part series on Non-Profit Quarterly, they recommend a mindset shift about board responsibilities from insular to ecosystem, from power over to power with, and from decision-making to accountability. Under this framework, a non-profit board's core responsibilities would be "loving accountability" (to challenge and ask hard questions, but with care) and "abundant resourcing" (fundraising, but also networking, advocating, finding volunteers). For day-to-day operations, they discuss collaborative decision-making practices like the consent principle, dot voting, and fist-to-five, over traditional black-and-white models like the Roberts Rules of Order.
