January 12, 2023 "Knives Out" (2019)
A murder mystery/whodunnit with an ensemble cast and a plot twist that challenges your idea of what should happen in a murder mystery. This week on the BCC Podcast, Beto chose "Knives Out", a movie he believes to be one of the best movies released in recent years. This was a fun and entertaining change of pace from the last few movies with darker themes although it does present a picture of the state of current events of the last few years that were too obvious to not take note of. We paired this episode with Nütrl, a vodka seltzer made with fruit juice. It was a nice and refreshing change of pace from the whiskey we had last episode and it had a really good taste. December 28, 2022 "Manchester by the Sea" (2016)
"I just can't beat it"; these are the words of the main character, Lee, who has experienced a terrible loss and can't bare to be in his hometown where the tragedy occurred. Milo chose this weeks movie and after holiday delays (Happy Holidays btw), the fellas were finally able to talk about one of the few grounded movies on our list of movies we've talked about. A story about grief, loss, growth, and ultimately, redemption, "Manchester by the Sea" follows Lee as he makes his way through another loss in his life and has to take on a challenge, one that we believe was meant to give him purpose, another shot at being happy. This all sounds so ambiguous, but even in the movie, the tragedy isn't presented until an hour in and we don't want to ruin the chance for you to experience the first of finding out what happened. As we enter the new year, we continue planning more projects to enhance your experience of listening to our podcast and we hope you stick around for what's in store!

December 02, 2022 “All Quiet on the Western Front” (2022)
“Jawohl!” On this weeks episode, we talked about the horrors of war and the reality of being a young man on the forefronts of a world war. However, we looked at it from the perspective of their Germans, something not typically done when it comes to movies about war. We all had a lot to say, more than some of us even expected and given the grim reality of the film, we enjoyed talking about it and similar to the joyful, small moments in the movie, we were able to let loose and take the moment in. November 17, 2022 "Prisoners" (2013)
We are back! After dealing with sickness, COVID, school and working on a festival, we were finally able to record this highly anticipated episode on the 2013 thriller/crime masterpiece, "Prisoners". This is one of those movies where you have to pay very close attention to all the details because every single piece of information that is presented to us is not wasted and it might take you a second watch to put two and two together, but that only makes you appreciate it so much more after that second viewing. Helmed by some of the most versatile actors (Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhall, and Paul Dano), the contrast of all of them plays a role in the grand scheme that is this movie; you have a man fueled by emotion and faith, a man fueled by logic, reason, and determination, and a man seemingly fueled by fear and submission. As per usual, we paired this episode with a variety 12 pack of Twisted Tea's which complimented the movie really well because of its low ABV and easy drinkability. We look forward to continuing on our regular schedule and we hope to finish off the second season before the year ends so stay tuned!

October 12, 2022 “There Will Be Blood” (2007)
“I’ve abandoned my boy!” None of us have children so we can’t relate to this, but Beto suggested probably one of the most thought provoking movies we’ve watched to this day. There Will Be Blood is helmed by a strong performance from Daniel Day Lewis and a just as strong performance from Paul Dano. This movie emphasizes the themes about capitalism, greed, religion, familial bonds, ambition and we get deep into them. It also has a powerful score that adds to the unnerving and uneasiness aspect of the movie and beautiful cinematography and motifs that after a few watches become evident. Although it is a long run time, this is one of those films that, although being a slow burn, progresses the story without being a slow and boring movie (although Chris had some thoughts about this). This episode was fueled by Fremont’s Lush IPA, a crisp and refreshing IPA that had virtually no bitterness. IG: @buzzedcandidandcritical

September 28, 2022 “The Truman Show” (1998)
What if none of this was real? What if all our lives we were just part of some reality show that streamed all over the world? As technology advances, that fear seems to be more of a reality and it seems that The Truman Show predicted it pretty accurately. However, there’s a lot more to The Truman Show and the more we talked about it, the more we noticed and we appreciated the smaller details that some of us didn’t notice. The Truman Show is a timeless classic Jim Carrey film and he’s able to show off that quintessential Carrey acting. On this episode, we didn’t really have a set beer that we all drank: some of us had Guinness Draught Stout, some of us had Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Stout, some of us had Lost Coast Peanut Butter Chocolate Milk Stout and as always, with a White Claw on the side! September 17, 2022 “Little Miss Sunshine” (2006)
“Life is one fucking beauty contest after another.” We’re back like we never left. Starting off season 2 of the BCC podcast with Chris’s pick: “Little Miss Sunshine.” Some of us hadn’t seen it in a while or in the case of Tykni: he hadn’t seen it at all before! We reflect on our initial thoughts about it and we go below the surface level to uncover what the movie is about and what to take away from it. We kept the drinking light this episode with Vizzy Seltzers. August 23, 2022 "Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood" (2019)
"It's official: we're has-beens!" Fueled by New Belgium's tasty, tropical and boozy Voodoo Ranger Juice Force Imperial IPA clocking in at a whopping 9.5%, we've reached the final movie of our Tarantinoverse episodes (at least for now). "Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood" was Milo's pick to talk about for this episode and even though there were plenty of scenes in the movie that, when separated from the rest of the scenes, did not hold much meaning on the surface, the boys actually had a lot to say and the commentary it has on the movie industry, that, even today, continues to change in ways we would have never imagined. Although not the strongest Tarantino film, we were able to appreciate it a lot more after talking about it with each other and we had fun with it. This eight episode marks the end of the first season of Buzzed, Candid, and Critical and we just wanted to take some time to say thank you to those who have been with us from the start and have been supporting us in any way possible. We will be taking two week break, but we will be back before you know it with a season we hope will be of a higher standard than that of the first season with some new creative choices, guests, and the potential of video podcasts!

August 08, 2022 “Everything Everywhere All At Once” (2022)
“Let me get a bagel. With EVERYTHING on it.” Beto’s first choice as a permanent member strayed away from the Tarantino-verse, but this movie exceeded our expectations, especially considering Milo (myself) and Tykni (Bryan) hadn’t seen it. It’s also the first movie we’re doing that’s a recent release. Check us out as we talk about this heart warming (and heart wrenching), action packed, comedy filled, tear jerking, nihilistic and existentialist cluster f*ck of a movie and we get into why it’s Beto’s choice and what it means to him. “Django! Have you always been alone?” On this Tarantino episode, J0yPain chose “Django Unchained”. And just as the movie is long, this episode is our longest to date, but if you stick around for the long ride, you’ll have a little more appreciation for this revenge porn/spaghetti western hybrid just as we did.
