An inside look at my writing process for 'The Man Who Cannot Die'. For me, a song starts with the music and then I pair that with an idea or a line of lyrics. This song is meant to end a concept album called Omega where a prisoner of war realizes that he's free because he is eternal. So this song needed to be triumphant in some ways, but also thoughtful enough to speak to that transition between death and life. When I started recording, I only had the music for the verses and two lines of lyrics. The rest is improv, and I'll take some of that improv and develop it when I'm ready to finish the song. craigscunningham.com
