Charlotte View 2011 welcomes Natasha Jentre- Darrington who will tell us her story as a direct beneficiary of the U.S. Sentencing Commission on making crack cocaine guideline amendments retroactive!

In 1997, she was found guilty by association with her ex-husband's involvement in a crack-cocaine offense and unjustly sentenced to 15 years and eight months for it. If the Commission had rejected retroactivity, she would still be in federal prison until next year.

She will talk about her life in prison, the price she paid and who she has become today. Also will provide information about FAMM "Families Against Mandatory Minimums", the national voice for fair and proportionate sentencing laws. http://www.famm.org/

He's entering his junior year at UNC Charlotte, majoring in geography with an urban studies minor. He desires to become an urban transportation planner. He has an internship with a geography professor at UNC Charlotte and an internship with the Charlotte Department of Transportation. At college, he serves as a senator, president of the geography club, secretary of the cyclists club, public relations for earth club, and co-founder of the green alliance. He is a member of the University Honors Program, Golden Key International Honour Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals, NC Chapter of the American Planning Association and Gamma Theta Upsilon (geography honors society). His hobbies includes: bicycling, running, swimming, hiking, networking, and hanging out with friends and family.

Charlotte View interviews Fara Robinson volunteer for The Greater Charlotte SPCA. Founded in 2010. Greater Charlotte SPCA is a group of dedicated rescuers with many years of experience helping homeless pets. We are a 501c3 organization and rely on public donations to help us save homeless animals. 

Mission: to improve the quality of life of homeless animals through veterinary care, foster care, humane education and spay/neuter programs.

SPCA do not own and operate a shelter facility. All pets are fostered in the homes of our volunteers. Since our pets come from shelters and other rescue situations, we find that fostering in our homes gives us the opportunity to assess the pet's personality & needs and match them with the right adoptive family. In addition, we are able to provide all care and medical needs for our animals and it enables the pet to develop a happy frame of mind prior to adoption.

Claudia Pureco and Victoria Sprow interview Nicholas Rabah a 16 year old artist resident of Charlotte. He was born in Israel on June 22nd 1994. At age of four, Niko started to show his unique talent in paintings and drawings.

Some of his achievements include: exhibition at Charlotte NC’s Library; nomination for the "Sin Limite"(Without Limit) award in New York City;

cartoon illustrator and creator of 4 characters (Mitad de Ocho) in the newspaper "Mi Gente”(My People); etc.

Last year, Niko opened the first bilingual Art Studio called “Niko's Art Studio” where he with other teachers are teaching young children and teens find their talent.

"Con A de Arte" is an annual event organized by Art Si. It is a celebration of Hispanic/Latino culture and artistic expression from art, photography and literature to dance, music and drama. This popular festival has been celebrated since 2004. Every year a call for Artist is send to group together talented latino artist in the Charlotte area.

Art Si! is a community initiative developed to support, connect and train Latinos in the arts in Mecklenburg County. The goals of Arts Si! are to connect Latino artists to available resources, to create opportunities, to empower Latino initiatives, and bridge the cultural, communicational and financial barriers that Latinos in the arts may face.

This initiative was created when the North Carolina Arts Council connected key advocates from various Latino artists and groups in our county into one cohesive group. Representatives from the Arts & Science Council, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, McColl Center for Visual Art, Latin American Coalition, Graphic Designer Carlos Crespo, Marketing Consultant Ana Lucia Divins and other individual advocates share a common voice in this project.
