In this episode, we talk with Steve McNutt, a cybersecurity professional at Cisco. Steve has seen the industry change several times, and together we cover the traditional security design as well as how to design for cloud security in the new age. We bounced around between a lot of security topics in this show, so there are a lot of links to share!

This episode is all about how to approach the transition from a traditional network engineering role to a more cloud centric network engineering role. While we firmly believe that hybrid cloud is not going anywhere, there are plenty of things within cloud networking that require a bit of a shift in how you frame your thinking and what you do in this new role. Today’s episode is very much a round table discussion where we go around and discuss our thoughts on a variety of questions, as well as give any insights that we think may have helped along the way.

Today’s episode is an introduction to the Cables 2 Clouds podcast. We go into the co-host's backstories a bit and talk about what kicked off their transition into the cloud networking world from the more traditional network engineering roles they started with. The “target audience” is covered as well as ideas and topics that we want to cover in future episodes. Alex, Chris, and Tim talk about the sort of forced elegance in the cloud and give opinions on what each of them really enjoys about working in this new frontier and what things they are excited to talk about. We wrap up with remarks about being under the Art of Network Engineering umbrella and where you can find us online.
