🇬🇧 O.W.S. AND BRAZILIAN MUSIC
Why should a Brazilian-music show be so involved in the Occupy discussions? That's because it's made by real people who care about the real world they live in. So in the third part of its Occupy series, the Caipirinha Appreciation Society brings you another great selection of music and analysis on the demonstrations. Just like our musical taste can be so varied (samba, rock, maracatu), so are this week's chosen commentators (a writer, a marine, an actor).
.
🇧🇷  O.W.S. E A MÚSICA BRASILEIRA

🇬🇧 OCCUPY: THE CONTEXT
As we observe the popular protests taking place across the globe, we couldn't help but recall a speech given by peace activist John Pilger back in 2009, in which he already detected that something was stirring: "My own guess is that a populism is growing once again in America, evoking a powerful force beneath the surface which has a proud history." The speech brings much food for thought, so we decided to share some of the best parts with you, nicely wrapped in lovely music to get your body and mind into racing mode.
.
🇧🇷  OCCUPY: O CONTEXTO

🇬🇧 OCCUPY NOW!
What was supposed to have been an innocent rant against the sell-out of the rock'n'roll concept by the promoters of Brazilian-music festival Rock In Rio to big corporations, turned out to be, by sheer force of the modern information highway, something of a broader scope. If the revolution is not going to be televised, as they say, we guarantee it will be podcast. // Manifesto read by Keith Olbermann at his Countdown show on Current TV.
.

🇬🇧 END OF THE WORLD - PART 2
Of course a theme of above-average importance such as "the end of the world we live in" was bound to serve as inspiration to poets, artists and musicians around the globe. So bountiful a muse it is, that we couldn't fit all the good songs we found about the theme in just one show. In the week a 5.8 eartquake hit the US East coast... as hurricane Irene hovers over the Caribbean... we bring you another wave of good music to get you in the appropriate apocalyptic mood.
.
🇧🇷 FIM DO MUNDO - PARTE 2

🇬🇧 THE APOCALYPTIC DIPTYCH - PART 1
Somewhere between 2011 and 2012, the Caipirinha Appreciation Society podcast put out two episodes about the announced end of the world. They are so much fun that we just had to rerun the pair of them now, seeing as we're in reminiscing mode. Here's the first part. Enjoy!
.
Aqui vai a primeira parte! Bom proveito!

🇬🇧 HOMAGE TO OUR FAVORITE RECORD STORE
Imagine a record store that's entirely dedicated to Brazilian music: rare albums, recent releases by independent bands, with a special focus on Pernambuco talent. An obligatory stop in Recife and an absolute Caipirinha Appreciation Society favorite. This archive podcast explores both retail and label sides of the great Passadisco, that this week sadly announced that it is to close its doors for good.
.

🇬🇧 MEET THE MALANDRO
The sheer amount of songs found in Brazilian music about the figure of the malandro warrants this podcast episode, in which the Caipirinha Appreciation Society hosts strive to unravel this most sleek and elusive of national archetypes. Enjoy the killer playlist that ties it all together without losing composure!

🇧🇷 UM SALVE À MALANDRAGEM
