  • Class Is In Session: GO VOTE!

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode Alexandra Hodge and Astrid Ferguson explain how the three US government branches (legislative, executive and judicial branches) work and what the various elections are. We discuss what the various parties are that we vote for during the primary and general elections. With a big election coming up it’s important to understand what appointed vs elected officials are in your local community.

Learn about the electoral college, difference between the people’s vote and the electoral vote and how trump won the election in 2016. In this episode you also learn more about Daniel Cameron’s background and closing thoughts on Breonna Taylor’s case.

      1. Daniel Cameron (about him https://ag.ky.gov/about/Pages/Attorney-General.aspx) was an elected official (attorney general) who chose to handle Breonna Taylors case after the district attorney of Louisville Tom Wine, (https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/politics/metro-government/2020/05/13/breonna-taylor-shooting-top-prosecutor-wont-review-officer-conduct/5186857002/) removed himself from the case which would have been handled by the city instead of the state of Louisville Kentucky. Which is why Breonna’s family was able to get a settlement of $12 Million. So the whole conspiracy that the officers would not have been charged because money was paid to her family is false because they were handled on two different parts of the court system. Think of it as local county vs. state. https://definitions.uslegal.com/d/district-attorney/ https://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Attorney+General

  • Suicide Awareness: Intimate Interview with Cheyenne Tyler Jacobs

    Send us Fan Mail

As the 10th leading cause of death in the United States and the second leading cause of death (after accidents) for people aged 10 to 34, suicide is a serious public health problem.

In 2016 in the United States, nearly 45,000 people died by suicide and the rate of suicide has increased every year since 2006. An estimated 1.3 million adults attempt suicide each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). More than one in five people who died by suicide had expressed their suicide intent. https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/suicide-prevention

In this episode we have an intimate interview with Cheyenne Tyler Jacobs who is the founder of She Will Speak Series, author of The Tragic Type of Beautiful, poet, host on As I Was Saying podcast and a badass advocate for women rape survivors and mental health. We pull back the curtain and ask Cheyenne about her experience with suicide, suicide ideation and suicide prevention. She helps us understand that suicide is the result of wanting the pain to end and not the result of the misconception that a person doesn’t want to live.

To learn more about Cheyenne please visit her @ SHE WILL SPEAK dot COM or follow her on Instagram @shewillspeak

  • What’s codependency, money limiting beliefs, scarcity vs abundance mindset and how could this be affecting our Latinidad?

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode Astrid Ferguson and Alexandra Hodge discuss... Breonna Taylor - Lebron James wore a MAGA modified hat to have her murders arrested. She was published on the cover of Vanity Fair. But no updates on her actual case has been made public. Vanessa Guillen - no updates on her case besides she was laid to rest last week. A news article revealed—not only is it alleged sexual harassment, she was killed on base and everyone is stating they don’t know anything https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVqtAojfo3w

Codependency- what is it and how does it show up for you? “Codependency is typically discussed in the context of substance use, where one person is abusing the substance, and he or she depends on the other person to supply money, food, or shelter. But codependency is much broader than that,” says Jonathan Becker, DO, an associate professor of clinical psychiatry at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. (https://www.everydayhealth.com/emotional-health/do-you-have-a-codependent-personality.aspx )

What are 8 signs of codependency and how may it be showing up for you? Listen to this episode and check to see how it can manifest in your relationships and in your inability to let go of people.

Let’s talk money and our Latinidad. The big R word “responsibility.” The need to constantly take care of others before ourselves and revisit the abundance vs scarcity mind shift. Learn in this episode the varying degrees of both and other limiting beliefs we carry around money.

  • Toxic Relationships Pt.2

    Send us Fan Mail

Listen to this episode and see if any of the 24 signs we share from the Women's Health Mag article applies to you (article linked further down). Often, we tolerate being in toxic relationships because we are the last to know or we could be the toxic one in the relationship. Relationships are complex because of the people in the relationship. Relationships are simple, people not so much. Take time to identify where toxicity could be developing from in your life and see if you are creating more excuses to continue the toxic cycle. Send us what signs resonates with you the most on our socials listed below.

Once you listen to the episode ask yourself the following questions: How has your troublesome childhood influenced how you function in relationships? Are you creating excuses for them? Are you blaming your parents for your adult behaviors? Let us know if you agree with Lauren Hill's daughter perspective. We would love to hear from you. On this episode we also share an update on the Breonna Taylor and Vanessa Guillen. To read the articles we share follow the link below:
