On this episode we embrace the Girl Power Movement. We are raising a Girl Gang of our own and love what is currently happening with the Caitlin Clark Effect and friendship bracelet love from the Swifites with Taylor Swift. Our girls are young and very impressionable, and they have loved witnessing Caitilin Clark and the Iowa Women’s Basketball Team break records and change the game. Watching the Iowa women’s basketball team became something we all did as a family. We were able to cheer the entire team on to a national championship runner up and learn so much in the process. The cool thing is that we can love watching basketball AND be in our Taylor Swift Era, too. We are teaching our girls that there is room for all women to be successful. Competition is great, but it does not need to create a division between people nor does it need to force people to choose one thing over another. As Taylor Swift would say “we all got crowns. You need to calm down.”
Along with embracing this movement of extraordinary women, we also gave some ideas on how boy parents can support these females and how other parents can encourage their girls and help continue to shatter glass ceilings and move the needle of equality closer.

On this episode we talk through each of our postpartum journeys with all five of our kiddos. We had such different experiences with each kid. We discuss maternity leave, postpartum depression/anxiety and life with one kid vs two or three. We both had experiences with postpartum trauma that is still triggering to us to this day. Birth and delivery was something that came easy for both of us so it was fun to reflect back on that time in our lives.
We also discussed how to help postpartum moms and how to show support. Some of the ideas stem from what we wish people would have done for us, what people did for us and some insight looking back on things that would have been helpful Our best advice: bring food and be mindful!

On this episode we talk about rules… that aren’t really rules and some family superstitions. Our mom has some older superstitions that she has passed onto us andddd given us both a complex. Did you have to be home when the streetlights came on? Did you grow up being told that you cannot bounce the ball in the house? Did you think that the dome lights on inside your car was illegal? We touch base on all of these “rules” and chat about a few more.
We also discussed our childhood in the 90’s and early 2000’s. We discuss some of our favorite toys, favorite tv shows, and some of our favorite childhood experiences. What a time to be alive!

On this episode we discuss our personal “icks” and unpopular opinions. We define what an ick is to us and clarify the difference between an ick and a pet peeve. This episode is lighthearted and a glimpse into our lives outside of motherhood.
Tune in if you want to hear us go ham on things that drive us nuts and give us the ick.

On this episode we talk all about what we have gained from motherhood – the confidence, decision making ability, time management, and not to mention the pure joy we get from having the privilege to be moms. We also discuss things that we have realized in life that really don’t matter. The size of your house is not a direct reflection of the love shared in your home.
We know the tough times can be trying but the highs far outweigh the lows.

On this episode we decided that it would be a good time to discuss traveling with kids. Spring Break is right around the corner, so we wanted to share our favorite tips and tricks for traveling. We talk about road trips vs flying and how we have managed to nail down a process when flying with kids. Our flying destinations currently include direct, non-stop flights out of our nearby airport – we are not airline boujie. We do not claim to be experts, but we share what works best for us. We use many different services (house rental, car rental, baby gear rental, grocery delivery, food delivery, etc.) to ensure that our trips are convenient and as hassle free as possible. We go in with zero expectations and little plans so each day can be whatever we make of it.
Our final thoughts: take the trip, give your kids motion sick meds and give yourself grace.

On this episode we talk about some pretty heavy life feelings: anxiety, overstimulation and the mental load. We discuss what type of anxiety we experience, what causes our anxiety and how we handle it. Our anxiety is reflected in household chaos and intrusive thoughts that no one ever talks about. Are you fight, flight or freeze?
oVeRsTiMuLaTeD is a word that we use in our families A LOT. Our girls can pick up queues when we are overstimulated and understand that the dog scratching to go out might just send Marley over the edge. We both experience being overstimulated in different ways. Marley gets overstimulated by sounds and noises while Mellany is overstimulated by constantly being touched. Sometimes being touched out can be exhausting!
The mental load of motherhood is something that can really be overlooked. There are so many thoughts, appointments, meals, laundry, etc. that need to get done and that often falls on us as moms. Our husbands are great helps, but also, we don’t want to have to ask for help or think for them. Moms just know what needs to be done and when library books are due and how to correctly fold a bath towel.

In this episode we discuss our different parenting styles. We dive into Sarcastic Parenting and Gentle Parenting. We both have such different parenting styles which include a bit of sarcasm and choices. Mellany’s style is a survival tactic and Marley’s style definitely takes a lot more conscious effort and work.
We also talk about things we said we would NEVER do as parents. Stickers on your car window? Sure. Mismatched clothes? Yep. Slippers at the Farmer’s Market? Don’t care! Mall play area? Go ahead and catch a case of HFM.
We tie it all together with parenting wins and success stories. We both pride ourselves on motherhood and our kiddos personalities are beginning to really blossom which we give ourselves credit with how they have been raised and our parenting styles.

In this first episode we jump right into how this podcast came to be and how our morning phone calls turned into the idea of sitting down and recording the overview of our daily convos in hopes that they might help others, make them laugh, or be relatable content to anyone else out there.
We also introduce our immediate families and which kids go with which sister and even a shoutout to the pups. We discuss our small-town equilateral triangle route between our houses and our parent’s house. We provide a little help decoding nicknames that The Davis Girls have and discuss the dynamic of the cousin squad.
Lastly, we give a high-level insight to our dynamic sister duo personalities and why it works!
