Episode 22: Is Your Faith Borrowed or Rooted?
Are we truly growing in our faith, or are we simply mirroring what we've always seen and heard?
When my son began writing his name completely backward, it got me thinking about how we learn, grow, and develop our understanding of God's Word.
Sometimes we recognize all the pieces, but we haven't quite learned how they fit together.
In this episode of Called & Rooted, I'm sharing how my own journey of studying Scripture opened my eyes to truths that had been right in front of me all along. We'll look at Elisha and his servant in 2 Kings 6, the importance of knowing God's Word for ourselves, and what it really means to walk as children of light.
Because sometimes it's not that the truth isn't there. It's that we haven't learned to see it yet.
Don't just mirror someone else's faith. Open the Word, seek Him for yourself, and allow God to open your eyes.
Scripture: 2 Kings 6:15–17 | Ephesians 5:8 | Romans 12:2

Episode 21: Are You a Bandwagon Fan? How Standing Firm Through Every Season
We proudly wear our team colors, cheer through the victories, and stand by our favorite teams through the losses. But do we show that same excitement, confidence, and commitment when it comes to our faith?
In this episode of Called & Rooted, we're taking a look at how football season can teach us something about our walk with Christ. From putting on our uniform and preparing for the game to tuning out the distractions of the crowd, there are so many connections to how we're called to live as followers of Jesus.
We'll talk about putting on the full armor of God, standing firm in our faith, and finding joy in both the victories and the disappointments of life.
And we're introducing a little something called Godfidence—confidence rooted in who God is, not in the outcome we're hoping for.
Because the scoreboard doesn't determine God's goodness, and our circumstances don't change His faithfulness. Through every win, every loss, and every season in between, we can stand firm knowing that His love never fails.

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10–18
Sometimes God shows up in the big, undeniable moments. But sometimes, He’s in the smallest details: the smile you needed, the conversation that came at just the right time, the nudge you couldn’t shake, or the opportunity placed right in front of you.
In Episode 20, Darby is talking about noticing those moments and being willing to respond when God puts us in a position to do something. Maybe it’s standing up for someone when it would be easier to stay quiet. Maybe it’s redirecting someone who’s headed down the wrong path, praying for someone who needs wisdom, sharing a meal, or simply lending a hand.
As Christians, we aren’t just called to notice the need. We’re called to be willing to step into it—even when it’s uncomfortable.
Because sometimes that little “God wink” you’ve been praying to receive might actually be something God is asking you to be for someone else.

What we plant today becomes part of what someone else carries tomorrow. But in the busyness, distractions, and constant “what ifs” of everyday life, it’s easy to put off the things we say matter most.
In this episode, I’m talking about what it really means to prepare the field, plant the seed, and seek first the Kingdom of God. From a question my four year old son asked about my Papa, to something my oldest child unexpectedly telling me to turn up on the radio, to spin class, church, cattle bloodlines, and even a little country music—God has been showing me just how much our small, repeated choices matter.
We have influence, but we don’t have control. Our job isn’t to guarantee the outcome. Our job is to plant.
So instead of only asking, “What happens if I do?” maybe it’s time to ask:
What happens if I don’t?
Our babies are growing. The years are passing. And one day, when we pass on, what will we have passed down?

Matthew 6:33
Proverbs 24:27

We spend so much of life asking, “Are we there yet?” When will the prayer be answered? When will the business grow? When will this hard season end? When will we finally make it to the other side?
In this episode, we’re looking at David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 and what it means to face the “giants” in our own lives with faith. David still had to pick up the stone, step onto the battlefield, and face Goliath, but he knew where his strength and victory came from.
“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty.” — 1 Samuel 17:45
From farmers planting crops, to teachers changing lives, to business owners building something from the ground up, we have a part to play. But when God brings the harvest, opens the door, or gets us to the other side, are we giving Him the recognition—or are we taking the credit?
Maybe you’re not “there” yet. Maybe the giant is still standing in front of you. But God is here. And maybe what He’s showing you about Himself along the way matters just as much as reaching the destination.

1 Samuel 17:37, 45–47

Have you ever found yourself reaching for another cup of coffee to fuel yourself and regain your energy...only to realize the coffee isn't doing it anymore?
Sometimes our bodies recognize exhaustion long before our minds are willing to respond. Instead of listening, we push through. We grab more caffeine, reach for our phones, turn on more noise, or find another task to accomplish.
But what if the things we're reaching for aren't meeting the need at all? What if they're helping us mask the signal?
In Episode 15 of Called & Rooted, Darby talks about why rest can feel like laziness, why high achievers have such a hard time stopping, and what Scripture shows us about God's design for rest. From Elijah being told, “the journey is too much for you,” to Peter sleeping in the middle of uncertainty, we're looking at what happens when we finally stop trying to run on empty.
If you've been waiting for permission to stop, leave something unfinished, and simply go to bed—this episode is for you.

Have you ever been so focused on hearing from God that you forgot what it feels like to simply be with Him?
Have you ever prayed for God to give you clarity and then wondered, “Is that God speaking—or is that just me?”
In Episode 13, we're talking about how to discern God's voice when you're surrounded by your own thoughts, other people's opinions, and the noise of everyday life. We'll talk about why not everything is a sign from God, the danger of searching until we hear the answer we want, and why knowing God's Word is so important when we're seeking His direction.
I'll also share how God continued to place the idea of starting this podcast on my heart in the most ordinary moments—and what it taught me about making room to hear Him.
You don't have to desperately search for God's voice. He knows where to find you.
Scriptures: Proverbs 3:5–6, Psalm 119:105, Proverbs 15:22, 2 Timothy 4:3–4, 1 John 4:1, Psalm 46:10, Jeremiah 17:9, John 10:27, Isaiah 30:21
