In this episode I discuss a supernatural event not possible in the normal physical world - a bird flying thru a window. The topic is “The Annunciation” in which the Angel Gabriel informs the unsuspecting Virgin Mary that she is soon to be with child. I discuss several paintings from a book entitled “Annunciation” by Phaidon Press Limited published in 2000.

In this episode I read a quote from a commencement address that Steve Jobs gave in 2005 at Stanford. He mentions calligraphy, Reed College and typography. As a calligrapher, I have always found this address to be uplifting and inspirational.

In this episode I discuss an article in the Maine Sunday Telegram (Jan 5, 2020) entitled “Poet, Painter, Former POW: Kifah Abdulla Takes Action Through Art.” Mr Abdulla teaches calligraphy at the Maine College of Art.

In this episode I talk about art done by American Prisoners Of War who were once in German Prison Camps in World War Two. The focus of the show is a book called “Talent Behind Barbed Wire: A Collection Of Sketches And Cartoons Of Prisoner Of War Life” by Joseph P. Odonnell. I recount my grandfather’s story of crashing in a B-17, being taken prisoner and later being forced on a march in the middle of winter.

There are many different projects to choose from and a wide variety of topics and time eras are available. I talk about some of the World War One letters I’ve transcribed.

I mention two highly informative articles on restoring water damaged items. I briefly recall the time our home flooded in the 1980’s and the life changing impact it had.

In this episode I discuss the possibility that Rembrandt may have had a vision issue called “Stereoblindness.” I talk about what Stereoblindness is and how it can effect people. My theory is that his possible Stereoblindness aided him in masterfully transforming the 3 dimensional world into 2 dimensional images.
