Unity of the Bible 1. Thread of person of Christ – We see the first mention of Christ in Gen 3 and have seen glimpses of Him in the history of Israel and the prophets (Isaiah) 2. Thread of plan of redemption – From Genesis 3 at the fall where a redeemer is promised, to the call of Abraham through whom all nations would be blessed, to the promise of a new covenant which would change hearts, to the prophecies of Christ, we see the plan of redemption being brought to fruition. 3. Thread of God’s program for the ages – We see God moving not only among Israel but even among the nations to fulfil his ultimate plans. We see His total control of all things. The period between Malachi and the Gospels covers a period of 400 years and is often called “The 400 Silent Years” or “The Intertestamental Period”. The first prophet to appear publicly proclaiming the Word of God after this period was John the Baptist proclaiming “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand”. Many flocked to John because there was a yearning for God’s word after the 400 silent years. The Foundational Books (The Gospels -Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) – each book presents a different facet of the Lord Jesus. Jesus is the one the OT points to. He is the fulfillment of much prophecy. He is the foundation of the New Covenant and the Church (1 Cor. 3:11, Eph. 2:20).
