Guest Pastor: Pastor Phyllis Hormann was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is a daughter of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu. She earned a BA in German from UH (1976), and went on to earn a MSc., from the Univ. of Oregon in Therapeutic Recreation (1978). Work in that field included serving as a Recreational Therapist in a rehab facility in Edmonton, Alberta, coordinating activities for two different local long term care facilities, and finally coordinating a respite program for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Serving on an intern support committee at LCH led to her sense of call to ordained ministry among other things. After completing a Masters of Divinity degree at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1995, she served three different congregations in Southeast Michigan over a span of fourteen years. She returned to Hawaii in 2010 to complete a year of Clinical Pastoral Education Residency through Pacific Health Ministry the organization which she served as a chaplain, first at Kaneohe State Hospital for two years, and then Kaiser Moanalua Hospital for eight years. She is now enjoying retirement.

Interests: outdoor activities, especially walking, hiking and a little kayaking. Swam competitively and played Water Polo for UH.
