In chapter 9 Gideon's son, Abimelek, kills his brothers and deviously promotes himself to rulership in Shechem. The youngest brother escaped his rage and pronounced a curse upon Abimelek and the Shechemites. As we will see, God always brings justice to his people.

This weekend, we will study how famine forces Jacob to make an impossible choice in sending Benjamin into unknown danger. God's hidden hand is already preparing a feast of reconciliation and provision. We will study how our most reluctant steps of faith often lead us straight into God's perfect plan, where what we feared losing becomes the key to receiving more than we imagined.

Judges Chapter 8 is a great reminder about finishing well. Gideon starts out great, but his initial successes effect his character and humility. His pride will eventually lead to spiritual complacency and idolatry. This chapter also warns us that the improper actions of a leader can have a negative impact on the people that follow them.
