In today’s lesson we’ll see the Israelites head from a place of joy down to a valley of bitterness. It’s a route they will follow for much of their history. A lot of us are on an emotional roller coaster that takes us down that same path and causes us to become bitter. Is there a cure for bitterness? There is, and we will learn all about that cure in this morning’s study. George

Ezra’s purpose was to accurately record God’s fulfilling of His promises to the Jews and the events of the return from the Babylonian exile after a seventy-year period and the events that surround the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem.

Today as we come to chapter 14 of Exodus, we find the Israelites in one heck of a predicament. They are boxed into a canyon with cliffs on their left and cliffs on their right, the Red Sea in front of them, and Pharaoh’s army is at their rear coming to attack them. About all they could say at this point is “Oh no!” But it was God who got ‘em in this mess and it would be God who […]

Last time when we left off in our study in Exodus, the terrible plague of darkness had ended, but as we come today to chapter 12 an even more terrible plague is about to begin–the plague of the death of the firstborn. But with that plague the Lord gives the people a way out. He will pass over and death will not enter the home of any family that has the blood of the lamb on their door. In this […]

There’s a lot of people out there today who are seeing all the weird things going on in the world and they are asking the question, “What’s next?” In Moses’ final days in Egypt, after all the plagues, the Egyptians as well as the Israelites had to be asking that same question, “What’s next?” Well, the answer to that question was “the Exodus,” and as we will see today, that very well might be the answer to that question in […]

The title of the message today is “The Grand Puppet Master.” The dictionary defines a puppet master as “the person who pulls all the strings; the one that is controlling what is going on beneath him.” That sounds to me like a good description of God, because He certainly is sovereign over everything that goes on beneath Him. It’s an aspect of God that we will see in play clearly in today’s lesson as he deals out His plagues on […]

In the book of Exodus we are given a vivid type of our Salvation. In that typology, Israel is a type of the church; Egypt is a type of the world; Pharaoh is a type of the devil; and the Exodus is a type of our salvation. As we come to chapter five, God will use the plagues not only to judge the Egyptians, but also to prepare the Israelites for their departure by weaning them off their lives in […]
